Default High Mileage question

New to the forum. I am looking to get into a touring rig. I really like the Street Glide and Road Glide. I have been looking at a 2004 Road Glide with 50k miles. The bike looks great and has been well taken care of. Should I be concerned about the mileage?

Thanks in advance

Dennis

Tough question. At 50k lots of stuff can need fixing. Engine should be fine. However,...alternator, rear drive belt, motor mounts, bushings, fuel pump..blablabla.

If the price is right, no more than $10k, and IF you can do some work your self it could be a good deal.

However, if you would take the bike to a dealer for most work........???

If the bike has been truely "well taken care of" the 50 ,000 miles wouldn't bother me at all. It all depends on the price and the service records!!!

Yes, you should be concerned, the first thing that comes to mind is cam bearings. If you are getting it for a steal and want to upgrade cam chest to hydraulic tensioners, high volume oil pump, bearings etc. This would be the only thing that concern me.

I think you could do the complete upgrade yourself for well under $1000.

The asking price is $12500. May be able to haggle a little. The bike has been taken care off. I have wrenched on alot of cars and some metrics never a HD. It rides like a dream. I am going to back to see it tomorrow. I will check some of the other items mention. Thanks for all the info!

Yeah if the service has all been done on it (esp the cam shoes for example) I'd not be too worried about 50k if the price is reasonable. That's just nicely broken in if it's been maintained well.
