I refuse to buy local unless it's necessary. Local purchases have sales tax and I pay enough tax to the various govt entities. I try to buy everthing possible on the web.

This is my first bike and over the years I've heard stories of how dealers screwed loyal customers with inflated pricies. I believe the way the dealers have treated folks is the customer's fault. If they treat you badly (e.g., inflated prices, poor service, etc.) then walk out the door. You teach people how to treat you. Never want anything so bad that you can't walk away from it. I, for one, am glad to see this market correction. Harley Davidsons are not an investment. I knew this when I bought mine and I expect it to depreciate; therefore, if delaers are forced to drop prices to stay afloat and that effects a used bike's value, that's just the way it is IMHO.
Great point b/c your right they are not an investment b/c they do depreciate and I wouldn't call that investing. And yeah, I no the market has tanked but history proves it will come back
The dealers around here are dealing on 08's. 15 to 20% off.
Yeah but they are not dealing on the 09's b/c they still have 08's and it's January, not good yet they con't to say when I tlak to them that thier sales are fine, YEAH RIGHT!
Do you mind if I ask what kind of deal did you get?
Ya had to ask didn't ya, $18,000 for the bike (black 09' FLHX no options) $793 in tax,dmv period......
They gave me a $110 HD leather vest with National & local HOG patches and memeberships,
Bike cleaning kit, battery tender and $50 off the first service. All in all a good deal I think.

What state are you living in that u only pay 4.4% in tax??
MOCO is not "allowed" to tell a dealer how much to sell a bike for (what goes on behind closed doors is always another story). Plus the margin on a new harley is not that big, so it's hard for a dealer to come down too much in price........the incentives need to come from MOCO. But saying that, HD inceased it's volume quite a bit in the last 10 yrs. If they cut back on producton to what they were producing in the late 90's (and they were making a very healthy profit back then) and sell out that quantity, then they will still make a profit and won't need to lower prices or offer incentives...........good for the company, but not for customers looking for a discount.
