Default Please help with Road King part number

I don't know the name or the part number for the piece I'm looking for but I'll do my best to describe it. It is that chrome piece that runs down the rear fender. The rear bag mount is attached to it at the top. And the exhaust hanger is attached to it at the bottom. Mine snapped on the ride home yesterday for some reason.

Thanks.

It's the vertical strip with the arrows pointing to it in figure 4. What's this thing called?

Ken, I can't get you the PN but the part is called the "Support Bracket" according to my 2008 SERK supplemental manual. Should be called the same thing on yours.page 2-29.

Take a look at this thread from the forum, has the part numbers as well as the possible reasons and reasonable solutions to avoid the issue in the future. I just had to reweld both of mine last month. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...-brackets.html

Thanks. I went and picked up a replacement and the parts guy said that these things start snapping when your motor mounts become worn. FYI

Just curious.... do you normally carry a lot of stuff in your saddlebags? I wonder if weight in the bags could be a contributing factor in the failure?? Never heard of those things failing before. Just thinking out loud and don't want mine to break.

No. I don't keep much of anything in the bags really. Pair of gloves, some extra glasses and a beer coozie or two. That's it.

i've heard motor mounts as the cause, i've heard removal of the rear "bumper" and its support bracket as the cause. When i reinstalled mine i purchased and installed the hidden support bracket that they put on the RKC as to help stiffen up that assembly.

Yes I have that bracket. I'll be checking it for breakage or missing bolts.
