I don't know what all the hullabaloo is all about!
Helicoils are used on every acft structural and power train system in the world. If it is good enough for the Space Shuttle than it is good enough to use on my scoot! I use them all the time at work. Takes all of 5-10 minutes to install and the threads will last 200 times longer than the aluminum threads in the aluminum case.
Hafta agree. Helicoils are better than orignal aluminum threads. In some cases, helicoils are inserted in auliminum cases by the manufacturer because they are stronger.
In the Industrial world, there is a compound called Devcon. Sort of like jb weld. Works like it but a lot stronger. It can be drilled and tapped. Another idea.

Getting off the helicoil subject, I would take it back to the last dealer that serviced it if they removed that cover. They had to know it was stripped and did not tell you or they stripped it themselves. The dealer that did the first service will probably sat that they were not the last to service it so they could not have done it.
However, either dealer may be nice enough to take care of it regardless since it is not a major deal to put in a helicoil.
Used Helicoil many times on the ship .. easy simple stronger... Sorry to hear about the Dealer Problems .. ever in North FL know a couple great Indy's up this way ...
