I prefer the Classic over the Ultra. I live in the south, and because the lower fairings are not supposed to be on the bike in temps above 50, they would be off more than on. I bought soft lowers for approx. $50. They weigh almost nothing, and take up very little room in the saddle bag. I only use them on really cold or rainy days. As for tour pack detach, I love mine. I installed the kit & hid the antennea in the bat wing @ about $460 total cost. Took about 3 hours (about 1/2 the time spent was reading instructions). No wires to connect or disconnect. Just put on or take off in a minute each way. It stays off unless my wife wants to go along. I don't care for CB radios, but that's just a personal preference. The seat is good enough for me, and my wife loves her half. I added a Mustang rider backrest for around $200 and 10 minutes of my time. Makes the seat very comfy when combined with pegs on the engine guards. BTW, I tried the Harley backrest, and did not care for it at all. As for the radio, the 2 speaker set-up on the Classic works for me because my wife would rather sleep than listen to music. No kidding. The ride is so good, she will often sleep between pit stops.

Both bikes are excellent. Just depends on what is important to you. My wife and I love ours.

No arguement here. Like I said it is a personal choice. You like your Ultra and I like my Classic. I just have cruse and a light kit on it about 300 bucks over stock price. The light kit was from my 07 FLHTC just moved it to my 09.

You would be better off getting the Ultra. Cheaper to remove things than to add on later! Once you get use to the tour pack you probably will not be removing it as often as you think. Your passenger will like the rear speakers and passenger controls.
Good Luck,

I went with the Standard and added what I wanted. I added the detachable kit. Now I can ride with a backrest and luggage rack or the tourpak or remove it all for the sleek look. I also installed a radio and speakers.

only have had the ultra so i can't 'compare'
- one thing i haven't seen mentioned is the chrome around the saddle bags that come on the ultra. i like the way those looks, and i have gotten the leather bags that hang on the front of those.
- i like the lowers for just some additional misc storage. i replaced the stock covers with some that have a small bag on them for some of those small items like sun screen.
- intercom - i usually don't have a rider, although i do like it when i do. one thing though is that the radio cuts out when you talk so singing doesn't work well.
- cb - nice to have. just a quick check for traffic information or construction. truckers use it all the time and you can get info quick. also nice for smokey information. "smokey southbound at 235 mile marker". necessary - no, but does have advantages. once when some pickup was tailgating me, i asked him nicely to back off and he did.
- cruise is nice
- never care to take the trunk off
- rear speakers. i use the helmet speakers.
- extra lights - nice to be seen

for me it was worth it. i figured i would probably get some/most of the stuff anyway

I like the Classic. As far as the trunk goes it stays on all the time. I use it for most of my stuff and could not see having a bike with out it. Did get a tour pack relocator from George Anderson. Also use the soft lowers. I use the Scala team set intercom for the bride and I and have had no trouble with it. Now with all that said IF I were to do it again I would get the Ultra. The bride does not listen to the radio but on a 400 mile ride she was bored and now she wants tunes on the long trips. Go figure..........

I didn't see any mention of the soft luggage that comes with the Ultra. They fit into the Tour Pak and the two side bags. Very convenient.

Thanks for all the replies guys. It looks like about half would go for the classic and half for the Ultra. It will probably come down to .. how big of a check do I want to write.

As one who went from a Heritage to an Ultra, let me add just a bit. When first looking, I found and decide on a Classic. Had to kinda slowly feed the idea of a new bike to the wife. Of course the Classic was sold before she was. The only things left, (all left over 08's) was a standard and an Ultra. Both in black. I took the Ultra and the nearly 3000 off they gave me. I'm am so glad I did. I don't use everything and may never. But what I do use, cruise, intercom, rear speakers, I'm glad I have them.

Of course it is each persons opinion, but i will tell you this. The wife and i had an 08 Classic. We decided to upgrade some things that we really liked about the Ultra and found it much more expensive to add on to the Classic. So, we traded for an 08 Ultra, and have not been sorry one bit.
