I need some help... I have an 02 FLHRC and love it. Lisa and I have put about 30,000 miles on it in the 3 years that we've had it. The SG has really really caught my eye, I want it BAD!!!!!!!!!! I'm keeping the King but gotta have the SG. I'm going to test ride/rent one just wanted some ideas/advice on what to look for, feel, expect etc etc... I've ridden other bikes just not one with a fairing. Thanks in advance.
i was in the same boat. i am glad i went SG. The fairing and radio are worth it. i put on 3000 miles this past summer and glad i went that route. Its comfortable, and the wind protection is okay. its smooth and handles well.
Make sure to go for the 09 model, the changes they made make a huge difference. Also be careful at first at low speeds, stops, etc, that fairing mounted to the front end is a little heavy and takes some getting used to. Good luck, you'll love it.
I went from an '03 FLHRC to (eventually) an '07 SG to (currently) an '09 Ultra.
While I loved my King I liked the SG even more. Didn't take me any time to adapt to the fairing. Lowered suspension is a little rougher (less travel than your King), so be careful on the speed bumps! Also, the windshield that comes stock on a SG is a joke, so expect a ton more air hitting you in the face. On the highway I find the SG gets pushed around less than the King, I suspect it has to do with that billboard shaped shield on the King.
All that said, my new Ultra blows away my old SG. So if you're shopping for a SG, follow btharris24's advice and take an '09 out for a spin - you're going to love that bike!
There are people who have returned to the 08 FLHX after owning a 09.
If the price is right - get what you want. IMHO newer is always better.
Now's the time for sure
love mine, it is my first "big bike" though so can't compare like the other guys. I will say everyone who sees it says they want one. I think the renting thing is a great idea.
good luck!
