Default Lowering The 09s

Have any of you 09ers started lowering these rides yet? I know they are taller than the 08s. I think I read by 1 1/2" because or larger tires. And how low can you go ? On a Road Glide and am sure with not much in the shocks I'm on my toes almost. Not Good!

I don't have a RG but I just lowered my 09 RK standard with 12" progressive 412's (rear only). No bottoming out issues, feels like it handles better and haven't scraped the floorboards yet.

Just picked up a set of StreetGlide rear shocks for my 09 Ultra. My dealer suggested these over the bracket lowering kit. I agreed with him becuase of the fact that I did not want to change the shock angle as this can create some problems and the thing rides just too darn good to mess with too much. I plan on installing them soon but up here in Canada there is still too much snow and salt on the ground to try them out. Dealer says I can expect 3/4 to 1" lower. If I need more then I will trim the sides of the stock seat and install some memory foam and gel. At 5'9" the stock bike was just a little too tall and I am hoping the shocks will get it down enough.

I installed a bracket lowering kit on my 09 Ultra. Lowered it 2" and now can sit on seat flat footed with 10lb of air in shocks. If you 2 up you will have to add more. Shock angle changed only 1/2" didn't change the ride any.

Wanted the feeling of sitting in my bike rather than on it so I started with the least expensive possible solution 1st - lowering kit. It did change the shock angle a few degrees. At my age, vision and reflexes will no longer allow me to enjoy the twisties the way I use to and any hard riding is straight line. However I haven't done any two up riding with it yet. I keep around 20-23 lbs of air in the shocks and will double that with a passenger. Until riding two up, the jury is still out on the lowering kit but as of now I'm happy with it, have had no bottoming out, and prefer the type of firmer ride I think it gives me. Since I'm on a SG and it has the shorter shocks I only went for an additional 1" of lowering.

You guys need to do some reseach.
HD web site says the 08s and the 09s are exactly the same seat height (laden and unladen) and the same ground clearence.
For the Ultra and the Street Glides anyway. The 09s do weigh more though.

The deal is the fatter frame of the 09. and the wider seat to fit the fatter frame. And is noticable to the eye. A friend has an08 ultra and I have the09. the width makes the bike seem 2" taller than his. I didn't realize the weight difference. thanks
