I just ordered the Biketronics kit to replace the HK that lost sound on the SG, and was wondering if you all had recommendations on what Sony head units worked best for you? I was thinking Ipod and/or USB connections, but was wondering if anyone has problems seeing the different displays in the sunlight and glare.
I got the Biketronic setup and after shopping around I went with the Sony CDX-GT620iP from their website as well.
Good combo. Decent display in bright sunlight. It came with the hard wired cable to direct connect to my Nano which allows you to operate most of the Ipod's functions through the existing hand controls + it also has the 1/8" aux input on the face of the unit.
I ran the Ipod cable through the handlebar cutout and have my Nano velcroed to the handlebar just in front of my right hand controls.
Alpine units are great but they may not be compatible with the Biketronics wiring harness which was designed to maintain the handlebar controls functionality and were built around Sony compatibility.
I have the Sony CDX-GT52W and have had good luck with it sounds good too. Thinking about the ARC 125.2 mini Amp That Firecap501 is offering through http://www.throttleupindustries.com/SU.html sounds like a good deal.
I agree Mike5959 i do not like Sony headunits. I have had them in the past in my cars and trucks and didnt like installing them when i worked at a auto custom shop.
I love Pioneer headunits they are bullet proof. Alpine is also a very good unit.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of the 630ui and will probably try it. I haven't had many problems with Sony in the past, and it's compatible with the Biketronics kit, has both ipod and usb. I was just a little worried about the glare making the screen difficult to see. The Jensen touch screen sure looks cool though.
Another question. I have the chrome bevel faceplate around the radio slot and was wondering if you all think this would affect being able to use the splash cover? It looks like it closes the opening slightly.

I would not think that is very bike frendly, I mean with the vibration, rain, bike wash buy girls in little bikinis and so on.
