i wish HD would get their heads out there a$$e$ and put pre-amp outputs on the back of their radios.
I've found a few different amps that fit in the fairing but I do not want to cut into any wiring.....
i did not cut my wiring when adding the amp in mine.
went to radio hack and bought blade connectors that fit the factory speaker connections, then went to the amp in.cost 2$
ok let me clarify what I said and what I meant. Can't you guys read my mind? LOL
What I said was preamp, meaning low voltage RCA outputs from the radio. this is a much cleaner signal that using powered speaker outputs. whatever your opinion, these are the facts...
the lower the volume on the head-unit is turned the better the sound quality being produced is going to be. the lower the voltage coming out of the head-unit going into an amp is, the better the sound quality is going to be. This is why PAC developed devices such as the speaker level to RCA adapters but even those devices inject a noise factor into the equation but they do a great job at what they're designed for.
sony used to make one of the best small amps I've ever heard. the model number was the xm2040. 4 channel, 20 watts per channel. now that doesn't sound like much, but when you are comparing amplifier 20 watts vs head-unit 20 watt, the difference is drastic.
I wish they'd start making that amp again. it was so small and sounded GREAT!

The Arc is an impressive little unit--so much so that I was in talks with them to help us design up something as future product. I even sent an employee to their factory in China to see how/where they are made.
If your looking for a higher power amp, even though its rated less than the ARC, the ACTUAL output of the biketronics 75 x2 amp is VERY close to the ACTUAL output of the Arc. It also FITS all applications and is plug and play!
I will go on record as saying the owners of Biketronics are friends of mine---but for the $$, this sometimes overlooked brand is the one to check out IMHO--PEZ
biketronics ROCKS! they make a device that will allow you to use most Sony head-units and retain factory handlebar controls. you lose the CB and PTT though.
i've called them several times and was able to get on the phone with their "techies" very easily to ask questions before I bought the device for my roadking and aftermarket fairing setup.... from the conversations i've had with them, i don't think it really matters whether they know you or not, they treat everyone the same way. VERY COURTEOUS AND RESPECTFUL.....
ive had a biketronics amp on my scoot for 40,000 plus miles... it is awsome... has never let me down and i can hear my stereo over my hq 120 with boarzilla pipes at 80mph...
