Cost me $13.95, that was for the oil and I did it myself. Took a couple of PIA hours but it is very doable.

$427 compared to doing it your self, sounds likes thats the answer. Some else posted how to do the job and what parts and tools were required. I think when needed I'm going to try it myself.

the question was about fork sliders but it mentioned changing the fork oil as well.

I followed this post by iclick and did mine as described by him.
Trickiest part is switch removal.
Look for post #23

Dude, If you are going to have someone do it for you, I wouldn't have any work done at the dealership if you have a trusted independent guy around. There is no requirment to have maintenance work done at an HD dealership...

Yeah, but at least you got more than fork oil for your money.

When I had my '05 FatBoy, I took it to HD for the 5K service. I took them the Mobil1 oil. They did the basic service (checking, tightening, tuning, and riding), changed the oil (I took them), and sold me/replaced an oil filter. $280.00, plus the filter, and when you add the oil I bought, total was around $340.00.

A month later, I took my '03 Sportster (Mama's ride, she didn't ride) to a well respected indepent guy for it's 5K service (a little late). It needed the basic service (checking, tightening, tuning, and riding - same checklist as HD), they supplied the oil (used dyno), the filter, they sold/mounted/balanced a new rear tire (stock Dunlop), changed the oil sending unit (had a leak), replaced the brake light switch (on hand brake - I supplied the part - just never put it on myself)....ready...$430.00...out the door... Ran like a champ...

I got a helluva a lot more service from my indy guy than an HD... Think about it. I will also take my '09 Road Glide to his shop... He is one busy fool...

Now that's a shame. Did mine myself, and yea it's a pain, but if I can do it, anyone can. Fresh oil (heavier than stock for a better ride) was less than $20. So you do the math. I'm feelin' your pain... that's criminal if that's the only work that was done! I'd be in there with the Manager makin' him explain how he got to that number. What can you lose?

My indy changed the primary fluid, the engine oil, the fork oil, the spark plugs, the trans fluid and repacked the wheel bearings for $300.00 on my 03 E glide
