I did a little 20-mile ride today despite the frigid weather here in Baton Rouge. It didn't quite make it to 50°. That's cold down here for a high.
I talked to Jamie at Fuel Moto today (Neenah, WI) and it was -7° at mid-day with a chill factor of -24°. I can't even imagine such a thing. Glad it doesn't work its way down here.
I've been known to ride when temps are at 25 degrees but lately it's just been too cold. It takes the fun out of it when I'm freezing my *** off and that is with wearing heated pants, jacket liner and gloves.
I may go out for a short ride tomorrow since I'm going through withdrawls.
19* this morning but the roads are clear. It was a great commute. Actually been riding all week. The looks the guys at work have on there faces when I roll in at 6:30am in the dark is priceless
I ride when it is that cold but not to work. I have a 40 mile each way commute and no set hours. Sometimes I work 8 but it could be anywhere up to 12-14 hours. Which means it is way after dark. And I work in a cold storage facility. My threshold for riding to work is 35°.
It was -20 the other day here in Illinios fought a apartment complex fire for 8 hours coldest temps I have ever fought a fire in. Froze to the bone colod once u got wet! Can't wait for 80 degrees! Get on the Glider in ride!!
I am so ashamed. It was only -1 this morning. I really wanted to ride, but... starting in negative territory was just too much. Only suppose to get to 20 but I have ridden below that. I think single digits are the cutoff for me.
I moved to Texas from Iowa ~ 6 months ago. It was 55 last week when I got a call from an old friend in Nebraska who said they were expecting a - 30 wind chill the next day. Even my "snow dog" son in Iowa City is growing tired of the Midwest weather. It's been a rough one this year - hang in there.
Our cutoff is 38-40 no wired clothes here. You guys riding in the twenty's or less are super dedicated or the cage is broke. But look at the good side, if not for global warming think how cold it would be.
