Typically I just shake my head in complete disgust at their display of ignorance!

I realize that an ashtray full of spent butts stinks like hell, but I say that's the price you pay for enjoying the habit! Unfortunately, I rarely (as in never) come across a smoker that doesn't dispose of the butt out the window.

While I'm a non-smoker, I own too much stock in Philip Morris to knock the habit -- in fact, I sincerely wish all smokers would up their habit by three or four packs a day; just please keep the butts inside your car!!!

I am with you, It was early in the AM and still kind of dark and some jerk spit a big loogie out his window and hit me square on the windshield of my bike. There is no way he could not have seen me. I wish I had a pocket full of metal nuts to throw back on that a$$ but I know I would have ended up in jail.

My sister-in-law did that very same thing. Flicked her cigarette out the window while she was driving and hit a guy on a bike. Hit him on the helmet right above his eyes. So guess what he did?...he flipped on his BLUE lights and pulled her over! It just happen to be a motorcycle cop! Gave her a big fat ticket for littering.
Who says there's never a cop around when you need one?

Wow getting hit by cig. butts, luge's and drinks being poured out of vehicles sounds like you all need to back off. Try giving the car in front of you a 4 sec, gap and when you pass start earlier and swing wider. I ride like every one is out to get me and ride as defensively as I can.

Anyone have problems with cagers throwing cigarettes out the window while driving in front of you,or trash flying out of the back of their pick-up truck and hitting you while your are riding? SO WHAT DO YOU DO?
Take control of your own destiny, not leave it up to the person in front of you!

I smoke. I throw my butts out the window. But being a rider, I also keep an eye out for bikes whether I'm smoking or not. If a bike takes the space behind me and I've got my window down smoking, I change lanes. I also keep the butt inside if he or she is still back there when I'm done. I'll find a can or use the ash tray and make sure that I don't do anything to harm the rider.

On the flip side, if I'm on the bike and I come up on someone smoking; I don't leave my safety in their hands...I change lanes, get in front of them, or drop back a few lengths, whatever I need to do to put myself in a better position.

I also try my best not to take space right behind pickups, dump trucks, garbage trucks and any kind of vehicle that's towing construction machinery.
I wound up behind a pickup one time that was towing a trailer. I was getting hammered with grit...I finally went to pass him and saw that he was trailering a huge home-made sand box and didn't have it covered! That was the last time I stayed behind a truck

Bottom line is, we have to fend for ourselves out there. People that don't ride usually aren't aware of how much danger they can cause a biker with just the smallest things they do.

cagers do alot of things that can **** off the pope...like trowing stuff out the window ....not see you when they change lanes.....amongst all sorts of other things....bikers as a whole see alot than regular drivers and need to.....but like I say fight the good fights.....trying to control or change a situation usually does.t work...accept it for what it is and move on

Angry Just my $.02...

And I know I am the FNG and all, but the "I throw my cigarette butts out the window, but just not when there's someone behind me" statements really drive me nuts.

Look, I'm not perfect and don't want to get up on my high horse, but when did the world become your personal ashtray? I have no problem with people who smoke, just with people who smoke but prefer to use the street, sidewalk, etc. rather than the ashtray in their car.

Sorry, rant off.

If you do decide to get off your bike you better be prepared to back it up. unlike this tool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2UJUqq5MNQ
