My 03 shakes quite a bit too, and the mount is good. My softail is fine at highway speeds as well, little to no vibration.

Yeah, but after 2000 rpm its smooth as glass...the softails vibrate at speed and give a harsh ride in my opinion. thats why the "TOURING" ( meant to ride long distance ) bikes are rubber mounted only...my Vulcan 1600 was rubber mounted AND balanced, smooth as glass at any speed. the V Rod is the same way. Watch for harleys liquid cooled touring bikes (2010 ) to do the same.
