finally wanted some additional features, so got a Zumo 550, but the old 2610 is still a great GPS and you can get some real bargains on it now.

Did you make that sun shield for the GPS unit?

I'm thinking about how to make one for my Street Pilot 550....

Sunshield's are available on-line. Check out ebay. Here's a sample:

Are you able to program your route on the computer and then save it to the GPS on any of these less expensive GPS units? That is one feature that I would like to have if I purchase one. I've been looking at the Zumo 450 because it has this feature, looks like the only difference between this and the 550 is that there's no bluetooth, XM, and doesn't speak street names, which I don't need anyway. And it's only about $350 on amazon.com

The Garmin 2610 allows you to build the route on the computer and then download to the GPS.

Keep in mind that a GPS comes with a base map of major roads, but you need to spend more money on a detail map if you need to follow something other than highways.

I bought a Garmin eTrex Vista HCX for photography, but I also toss it on the bike when I want to keep a log of where I've been. It'll capture the data without buying a map disk, but it won't display many of the roads you may travel.

By the way, I wouldn't recommend the Vista for mounting. The display is only 1.5" x 1.75", which seems too small to read while riding. My main concern with this one was geotagging for photography, not directions.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 260, which works just fine. I just stick the suction cup mount on my gas cover lid. It stays just fine.

+1 on the quest from ecost.com. It comes with all the software you need and is waterproof. I have one and while it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the newer units it does all I need it to do. All you need is a handlebar mount from Ram Mounts and your set. You can't beat it for the price.

I use the Garmin Nuvi 200 ($129.00 at Wallyworld). Works fine. I purchased a handlebar mount from

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3127&viewitem=

(if you use the Nuvi 200 ND Have the stock 1" HD handlebars you will need the 17mm ball w/ 1" mount)

I also purchased the hardwire kit from

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=110294887560

Since I have a FLHTC, I bought an ACC switch from HD. I do not have cruise and used that slot on the lower inner fairing for that switch.

Everything works great.

Mount that was bought on EBAY

Garmin mount w/ hotwire and you can see the second ACC switch

Garmin installed on bike

a fold out map and road signs. I took my first cross country road trip after the 10th grade and have been riding that way everday afterward.

I guess the adventure has gone out of motorcycling. Im such a dinoasur
