So I spend $20,000 for a motorcycle. That suddenly means that I loose the right to balance need with economy???? Those that make statements like this are also ones that would buy canned air if HD marketed it. Their reasoning would be, once again, "you spent $20k on a bike, and now you're complaining about a $5 can of air???"
Yeah right! Just because my bike cost $20k doesn't mean that I'm going to buy the most expensive items for it just because "I spent $20k on the bike"! If I don't see a valid reason and benfit to using nitrogen, then I shouldn't use it. Doesn't matter if it costs $0.20 or $20 or $200. Same thing with anything else. Do I have to buy $2800 Swizol Divine wax for the paint on my bike? Or can I buy the $4 Turtle wax? Or better yet, what if I don't wax my bike at all!... ... ... Do I have to pay $0.20 more per gallong for Chevron gas instead of ARCO?

I did not say that N2 was not better or worse for your tires. What I said was that N2 does not stop a tire from heating up. Your link also does not say that the tire does not heat up. It says pressure is more consistent and that along with the lack of water vapor prolongs the life of the tire. But contrary to what the folks say trying to sell you N2 for your tires, the tires still heat up. I have seen testing data from Ford and Goodyear from a few years back reading tire temps on a Nascar stock car using IR real time and the tires temps would swing 100 degrees C going around a track. The tires were filled with N2.

okay, i guess i should have said that for every one for, you can find multiple against...... better now?
i am not doubting the benefits of nitrogen in the tire for some applications, like semis or airplanes. but (imo) for the common guy, the benefit is not outweighed by the cost.
i check my tires weekly and inflate if necessary. i have over 15000 miles on my rear tire, still has plenty of tread left (5/32 or more). course, maybe there is more nitrogen in the air here in la. that must be it.
like i said, if it makes you feel good to do it, then go for it. but i don't feel the need to waste money, just because 'it cost over 20,000'.
but hey, i'm just a cheap bastage, you can ask my wife

for something thats a little closer to reality for the rest of us (those who don't drive a fleet), here's an article from a guy who sells toyotas and found that in a 9 month study using nitrogen to try and save some money (he spends 50 grand a month honoring lifetime tire warranties) went with using nitrogen in all the tires he sells. didn't save him any..... http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/09/au...es/09MOTO.html
