Default Best Mod Yet!

Just had my inner fairing painted to match the color of my bike. Painter $200 and install $110 (2 hours labor). Best mod I've made yet. Check it out,

I had the painter inner fair put on when I got my bike. Either way you wont be sorry for doing it. One of the best mods you can do.

I am in the Daytona Beach area right now. Called two different painters to get a price to paint my inner fairing gloss back. Both quoted $250.00. That is with me taking the bare fairing to them. Guess I'll wait until they need the work or keep looking.

I'm not sure anyone is thinking this through.
Sunglow Red should be cheaper than Pewter Pearl.
Ever paid for Pearl?
Rather expensive stuff, that Pearl is.

However, I still wouldn't pay $1000
A decent paint shop should be able to shoot that Inner for around $250 and install it myself.

Okay, by the (part) nos.: pewter pearl, HD part no. 98609CGR; HD activator (required to mix with paint), HD part no. 99825-02; HD primer to provide color match, HD part no. 98603A; clear coat, HD part no. 98609EK.

You can price the paint at the 20% off list price HD store of your choice. Color and activator usually cost about $100 for the basic colors; don't know if the pearls are higher or not. The HD part nos. are quart quantities; way more paint than you would need.

You can try VTF (the "other" forum) and get PPG paint codes for HD paint in the "Sheetmetal, bodywork, etc." forum and use these with a PPG shop that has the custom mixing facilities. They'll mix only enough paint for the job, so your paint cost should be signficantly lower. Someone copied and pasted that information on HDF, but I didn't save the thread--try a search using your paint color as the search term.

$48 or so for a Service Manual and you can remove and install the inner and cap yourself.

I had mine done by a local painter that used a scanner type device to match the paint, he tweaked it a couple of times to get it to match perfectly. I paid him 200 bucks and did the removal and instal myself. Used the manual, it was real simple, took a bout an hour to take it off and the same to replace. As has already been said, it's a great mod.
That was $200 canadian by the way, so that's like $85 U.S.!

This is the one Mod that I am planning fr the future. I'll do the removal and instal myself. Found that with a service manual to guide me,,,Anything on an HD is doable by a novice that has a basic understanding of tools.

As for the cost of the paint, I have found in the past, that many good bike painters, usually have the paint needed to match HD. Several that I have looked at for other things have the actual HD paint, so they can charge much less than having you buy the full quarts when you only need ounces..
