Default Crazy Thought

Since I'm bored crazy here in the cold weather and my mind is in overdrive thinking about how I can improve my SG, I have been thinking about this;

I need about another 1" back on my stock SG bars to be comfortable and I can live with the stock height......

The throttle grip is on a sleeve and the wires have way over an 1" of free play, so moving it out 1" on the bar shouldn't be a problem.

The clutch side grip could be extended out 1" by first inserting a one inch, 1" or 1 1/4" diameter pvc section of piping into the grip first and then pushing the grip onto the bar. I'm sure there is at least 1" of play in the clutch cable to move the clutch lever where it needs to be. This would make the grip solid on the bar.

I'm I brain dead here or do you think this set-up would work???

I know changing the bars is an easy swap, I just dread pulling the exhaust off to install a longer clutch cable. I'm getting lazy in my old age!!!

Won't that just make them 2" wider?
Also I would expect the grips would not be attached to the bars as solid. You might not feel any movement, but I wouldn't take the chance.

Have you considered loosening the clamp and rotating the bars back a little?
This will lower them slightly but it is cheap, easy and easily undone.

Your probably right on the 2" wider......Guess I'll just have to swap the bars later in the season.....So much for thinking outside the box......

You want to improve your SG, trade it for an Ultra Classic. Just kidding, pick up a hand full of cash, throw it at your bike, and see what it happens. i feel like that is what i do monthly.

One of the best, very best mods I did was put on my Chubby Wild One 1 1/4 bars. They pull back perfect for a great riding position. Ran the wires inside for a cleaner look, and put the stainless cables, brake, clutch and throttle on.... Nice job to have done. Haven't regretted it in the slightest. Food for thought. Great winter project too. I'm up in the north too, just a little further west.

I thought about your post. Search this forum, I know that several people swapped bars and didn't need to change cables.

You shouldn't have to pull the exhaust to swap the clutch cable, I just did it on mine and there is enough clearanace to get the cover off with the exhaust in place.

Just got my new bike and I had the 2" harley pullback bars in stalled- about 200 in parts and 210 in labor - all you need is the bars, a gasket for the tranny cover, and the clutch cable (if they tell you more they are lying). Worth every penny
