I have an 06 SG (vivid black) that I have added a tour pak too. I'm looking for ideas for airbrushing. I'm thinking some type of flames. Please post pics of your custom painted baggers.
Here's a pic of my '09 Ultra... When I bought it in mid-August it was vivid black, I tore it down in Nov. and did a color change (not a big fan of keeping black clean ). I used an 3-stage orange pearl for the main color, used black with a red pearl over it for the two-tone and flames and a gold metallic for the pinstripes. Can't wait for spring to get here so I can get it back out on the road. Larry
You want opinions and ideas?? Everyone and their brother does flames. Just look at all the magazines. Try something different, like some far out graphics or lines, or bubbles or marbeling, or granite look, etc..... My idea, go to the book store and buy up all the hot rod, hot truck, hot bike, customizing mags there are and see what's new and cool looking.
I always thought it would be cool to make the bike look like an old WWII Harley. Flat green paint, paint the bags to look like ammo cans. Or paint it to like like an old bomber with rivets and everything, you could even put nose art on the tank... THAT WOULD BE COOL... the picture above looks good though too.
If I remember correctly Spike had a pretty hot paint job. I'd have to agree that the flames have been a little over done, but it's all about what you like.
We just did a Chopper all gloss black with emrald heavy mini flaked flames, old school long flames. It looked very hot.
Those are some fine examples of custom paint above, but it only goes to show that one mans paint is another mans poison as each and every person has different taste. Case and point is where a couple previous posts state flames are cliche, old, and over done.
I on the other hand love flames, but prefer them being subtle, and one could just as easily say that Tribal's are overdone, Metalflake is passe', and to be honest, Marble or Textured paint belongs in a hallway. Point is, everyone has their own taste, and my advice to you is think long and hard about your paint and make sure it works for you, because your opinion is the only one that matters.
