I'm taking delivery of an vivid bleck 09 Ultra with ABS, Security and Cruise soon. The dealer included a $500 gift card and I'm thinking of having Chrome forks added to the bike. I have money set aside for slipons, K&N Air cleaner and PCV after breakin. The chrome forks really seem to set the bike off nicely but am I missing something. Is there something better I should be considering or spending the gift card funds on?
I try to do stuff as I need it replaced. I'll be replacing my forks at 20,000 with chrome ones when I plan to replace the oil in them. I did the chrome wheel when the tire needed to be replaced. Maybe I'm too practical!
You can get a lot of other chrome with that much money to make your bike look good. How about some footboard inserts and different hand grips? Chrome instrument bezels and radio trim? Chrome trim rings on the lights? Smoked turn signal lens? You probably could get all or most of this for $500. And make sure you take advantage of any sales they have. Most dealers are giving about 15 percent off on accessories this time of year.
The chrome front forks are definitely nice. They sure do dress up the front end.
I've had my 09 Ultra for a little over a week and there are a couple of things that I'm gonna have to get soon. First, I can see my arms and shoulders fine in the mirrors, but I can't see anything else. Unless I'm missing something other than the road behind me, I'm gonna have to have some long stem mirrors. I'm also gonna have to get some floorboard extensions. I won't get these from the dealer, but I've got to have some. I've not ridden enough to tell if I need a set of pull back bars or not, but I think they might be in my future as well.
Mike
I just got an 09 ultra and I put driver and passenger highway pegs, Smoked lenses, and I am working on chromed front end....I saw one and it was really nice.
I'd swap the grips, add some nice floorboards, footpegs, and the lighted rack.
I'd also probably go for the chrome hand controls before the fork. But that's what makes it fun, you get to do what you want. It's your money, get whatever makes you happy.
Enjoy the new bike, great choice!

Think it's money well spent. However, using the black also looks really good.
