I just got my bike back with Andrews 26 G's and S&S gear drives. The bike runs great! It exceeded my expectations in the butt dyno area. My question is did you guys notice more valve train noise after the change? I have minor gear noise but more vale train noise than before. The installer said the lashes were all within spec and the crank runout was less than .001. Runs real strong just alittle concerned about the valve noise. Thanks for any input!!
2002 with 95ci and the andrews 26G gear drive cams here... Yep, a whole lot more noise on the top end... plus the gear whine... Don't notice it much at hwy speed though...
Nearly same set up here and have the same noise in valve train and slight gear whine. Was told that a new oil presure relief valve spring to up the oil press to the top end might help. Am going to get a Baisley 30# spring to see if it does. On my RK the noise gets amplified by the windshield. But on my brother-inlaws scoot he has almost the same mods. but including roller rockers and he has no extra noise ...I've been told the rockers won't make a difference in the noise. I know everyone has said it does'nt bother them but untill you get to hwy speeds it sounds like I got marbles in the upper valve train.
Once I check the crank runout, I'm doing the same. Thanks to all that have posted their experience with various "quieting" tips....I plan to use them all.
BTW, does anyone know where I can get just a single replacement key for the 62 tooth Drive Gear for the rear cam of the S&S setup (on an '01 Twin Cam 88) ? Its supposed to be 0.188 x 0.150 x 0.57 inches, not exactly a stock hardware item.
S&S sells 'em in 5 packs, so my only other option is milling down a 3/16 inch square key to 0.150 height.
My Fatboy motor which is built to the hilt runs runs with no valve train noise, just a little whine from the cam gears. Before I built it up click & clacked alot. My Road Glide Motor is stock except for the 510G cam the guy that I got it from installed, makes alot of valve train noise. I even replaced the lifters which helped a bit but not as much a I hoped. I do not suggest the 510G on a stock 88tc, there is not enough compression which makes the motor way over cammed.
