Default Thanks guys!

I thought I had a good idea, but was afraid maybe I was off in left-field or something. Sounds like I'm not the first one to have this idea

I bought the Standard, then found a HD HK Radio that someone here removed to installed an upgraded radio. I installed it with Hogtune speakers and couldn't be happier. Well maybe if I added an amp! :-) Of course this is the first time I ever had a radio. I am learning to like it very much.

that's the way to go if you are getting a standard. IMO the HK stock radio sucks big time. The radio really soured me on the SG I was looking at. Get a good one with good power and speakers to cut through the road and pipe noise.

I've got the FLHT, with a kenwood, Love it. Firecap is gonna help me get more out of it, not cause I need to but cause I'm greedy. I don't have the hand controls working, and to be honest don't know if I will, not a big deal to just reach down, it's right there. Definately the way to go. The best bang for your buck in the whole Harley lineup, especially the touring. Anybody talks about the grey motor, bring to their attention the screamin eagles grey motore, that usually shuts em up. Love mine,

The screamin Eagle motors are powder coated, it is a different look than the grey motors HD put out in the standard. Just to let you know.

Hey SGChick the CDXM50ip is a nice unit. Installed one with a Arc amp in a Dragonfly. I really liked the direct attach ipod docking cable.

OK...here's my 2 bits on the subject, and it's something I know a bit about having done a few complete systems including head units, amps and speakers in varied styles and models.

Biketronics Retro Install Kit to bolt in any CD Head Unit w/ Handlebar Controls $199
Buy a Head Unit from any electronics dealer or Biketronics Direct $150
Buy a set of Hogtunes Speakers for the fairing $ 100

That $450 all in and it's less than the cost for a used Harman Kardon head unit which really aren't all that great in the first place. Now from here you can add an amplifier and upgrade to a better speaker if you desire more power. Going all in with the addition of a 150watt amplifier and better speakers would put you right in the $900 range and it would kick ***.

Call Mike at http://biketronics.com/index.html and get talking with him is my advice to you. They've been doing this stuff for many years, give lifetime warranties on their stuff, and they are one of the best in the industry. Enough said!
