All,
I have a belt drive squeak on my 01 FLHR. When I role on the power I get a cherp coming from the rear drive. Had the HD dealer investigate this when I repalced a rear tire last spring, and they found no problems. I have since checked the bearings, belt, and drive sprockets (per HD manual recommendations). And cannot find any issues either.
Has anyone else experienced this issue and can help me pinpoint where to further look?
Thanks,
I had a wierd squeek on mine and just looked one day and found the one band clamp holding one of the heat shields on was loose.. Tightened it and all was well.
Dave
i had squeek as mention above and it was the black rubber muffler mount at the rear slip on...and did same as mentioned above...sprayed some PB Blaster into it and noise went away...wd#40 would work also.
Thanks for the reply's folks. I have had a sqeek in the rear rubber muffle mount and have replaced them. I haven't tried cleaning the belt before, which i'll give it a wurl.
But to let you know, the squeek is occuring as I'm going down the road. It also has a tempo, as I get faster, the squeek get's faster. Hence the reason I think it's the belt.
Could it be something in the primary that may sound like a rear drive problem?
It cherps all the time. Sometimes it's louder that other times. Especially when it is wet. When I ride through fog on the way to work, it'll start cherping loudly, then quiet down as it dry's out again.
Any thoughts?
Your primary is in oil so I wouldn't think it would be there. Wash that belt good, use simple green. It could be a sm stone got between the belt and the case or belt guard, do you see any marks on the outside of the belt. Also check the belt guard hasn't come loose and is rubbing. If your riding in WI it may just be telling you it's too cold, LOL!
Edit: Wash Belt and pulley.
