Well, I took the Experienced Rider Class at our local HD dealership. The dealer gave HOG members a special rate to take the class. Let me tell you guys something, this is a class in which everyone needs to take. In about seven hours and approximately 15 exercises, I believe we improved on our skills as riders. I, personally, HATE the box and it's figure 8. This maneuver is a real biteoch. The instructor told us that 8 out of ten can not do this tight turn. I was in the majority. Of course, the only one to drop the bike during this maneuver, was me; first time the "Other Woman" went to her side. No injuries or damage....just embarrassment and ego. I did not throttle up when finishing the "8," and lugged the engine causing the spill. However, everyone was supportive. As the day continued, you found your confidence level rising. I even went back into the box and was able to do it! The amount of skill and knowledge you obtain from this course is well worth the money spent.
I have over 40 years on two wheels, I have taken the course several times, the last being in April of 2007. I will be taking it again in 2010 and turn the certificate into the insurance company for a discount. The rewards, skills sharpened, being an employee for the federal military, a paid day to ride and be with fellow riders, and an insurance discount to boot. The bigest reward, skills to keep myself alive to be with my family.
Even though I get the class for free, it is for sure money well spent!
