Default MSF Experienced Rider Course

I'm sure this has been asked before but has anyone taken an experienced rider course? Is it worth taking and did you get alot out of it? I was wanting to hone my riding skills a little more without doing any damage to my bike(LOL).

Took it back in 1991, felt it was worthwhile. It was very different taking a msf class with an actual (large CC) street bike. I still use several "tricks" they teach 18 years later. Hell, that I am riding 18 years later is partially to their credit.

If you ride and have never taken a class, then x2!

As an ex-MSF instructor, my opinion is the greatest value in this class is that you ride your own bike, and learn the capabilities of it in emergency situations.

Took it last summer, can't say it was worth the money. It was all the same stuff from the entry level course but supposed to have been at "higher speeds." I could done the same thing in an empty parking lot on my own. The only reason I took it was that I get an insurance discount.

I was also very disappointed with the instructor. The guy spent all the spare time bashing Harleys. There were 8 of us in the course, and only 2 were on HDs. Talk about HD envy, the guy couldn't go 5 sentences without saying something smartass about HD.

Frankly I get more out of the Ride Like a Pro DVD than the course. But you can't get an insurance discount for watching a video.

I took it back in 03 and learned a lot. Those of us that have ridden for years think that we know all we need to know. I found/learned a few things that helped me feel more comfortable and confident on the bike. I'm seriously thinking of repeating it this season, just to brush up on my skills.

Definately worth the money. I did a Road Captains course and an Advanced course at the H-D Riders Edge in Wales. They provide the entire H-D range to play on. After practising all the high speed stuff, low speed manouvers, hazard avoidance, counter steering, positioning etc. I really felt I'd accomplished something, even though I've been riding since about '72.
When I got home I traded my FXD35 in for an ElectraGlide and I don't think I would have done that if I had'nt been on the course and felt confident enough to throw a bagger around the twisties and through city traffic.
Do it!

Thought it was a good class, plus it was free for me cause I'm with the military and it was a day spent on the bike and not at work.

I took it 3 years ago after riding for over 40 years, definitely worth the money and time, I think it was only about $25.00 in Ohio. I learned a lot of good stuff and unlearned a lot of bad stuff.

It's worth EXACTLY what you put into it. Different instructors will create different atmospheres. MY instructors were there to improve riders skills 1 NCHP motorofficer on his Ultra, one professor on his Ducati. They were professional, and engaging.

If you're worried about damaging your bike, wrap some "heater hose" around your engine guards there's an instructor nearby during any "risky" excercise"

go in with an open mind, come out with new skills.
I take/retake the class with each new bike
