Default Ultra versus SG

I know this isn't a clear cut question but I'm looking at either the SG or and Ultra. I like the looks of the SG and I know I can add a tour pack with seat upgrade and passenger floor boards to give the wife a more comfortable ride. But can anyone tell me before I go test ride them if there will be a huge difference between the two? What am I going to notice? Suspension difference? Pro's and Cons?
A little more info on how I plan on using it, daily rider to work with weekend trips for me and the wife. This is why I was looking at the SG with detachable tour pack. Just not sure how the ride will be on the weekend trips and I won't be able to find this out with a test ride. Figured I can rent a UG but I probably won't be able to rent a SG set up like I want (tour pack, etc..). I know looking new the SG with all the additions is going to run close to the same price as the UG if not more.

Stripped down versus luxury is what your looking at. SG looks the coolest, Ultra is the most comfortable for touring. I use mine as a daily rider too. Haul the groceries and all my work crap on it too, and you can't even tell. For all you plan to add, I would vote Ultra unless you find some aftermarket stuff cheaper.

Yup, what Gunner said. The SG is a really cool looking bike, no question about it. But the Ultra has it all, and I don't notice the tourpak at all when I riding around town. It's great for throwing the laptop in on the way to work, and my wife and I can both fit our 3/4 helmets in it on weekend trips.

But you're the one that's buying it, not me. My advice would be to ride both. Some dealers have a rental policy that allows you to ride multiple bikes in the same day. Take both of them out for a fairly long ride and make up your mind. It would be best to have your wife along so you can compare the two up ride, and she'll get an idea of the comfort level for the passenger as well. But I'm telling you, she'll want the Ultra.

I suggest looking at the cost differences with the accessories you may want and then price a ultra. The Ultra comes with a lot of accessories that could run the price up when you start to add them if you get the SG.
Ultra has:
intercom
king tourpak
cb
cruise
rear speakers
I am sure I left some stuff off the list but you get the idea.
Get what fits your style of riding with the $$$ you want to spend

The SG has a little stiffer ride as a result of the shorter shocks and the seat is not very comfortable for the passenger riding long distances.
