Default Road King to Street Glide Conversion?

I'm looking at possibly removing my Dragonfy fairing for a Street Glide fairing. I saw my dealer adding the fairing and wiring harness to a RK the other day.

Has anyone in this forum done the conversion? (either did it yourself or the dealer did it)

Can you give me some insight. Send a PM to me if you've done it. I want to pick your brain.

Oh, and you St Glide guys, please refrain from making the obvious comment:

"Ya should've bought a Street Glide" 8-)

I love the Dragonfly fairing actually. I was just thinking about doing the Glide style for the gauges mainly.

Unless you're sure you never want to remove the batwing I'd leave well enough alone. Too many gauges ruin your concentration

I love those customs. A removable windshield is fine, but making it permanent on a RK Custom is like putting a back seat in a corvette. Why not just consider trading for an 07 SG?

Just buy some hard bags and change out the rear fender if you haven't already.

Gauges!? We don't need no stink'n gauges!

Already have the rear fender ground effects/led tri-bar. I will be doing stretched hard bags soon.

Maybe I should be happy the way it is. Afterall, it's a custom look I'm after.

I think it looks pretty good right now.

I have a black FLHR that I am adding a smooth/clean front fender to this winter and switching to black walls for a sportier look. I also have the LED bullet style tail lights and have a detachable fairing. I guess we like the same look.

Just remember with the Dragon fly you can still strip the bike down and ride free! Can't do that with a SG fairing!

RK = Flexibility!

Default Let me know.

I have a 2000 RK, cams, Rhienharts. Can't justify a new one when this one runs so good. I have an outer fairing and am looking for an inner fairing to convert my RK to a fixed fairing. I don't want the extra gauges, just speakers and tweeters. Let me know how your conversion goes and maybe I won't make any costly mistakes.

If you don't have one already, buy the 2007 HD Touring parts book. It will identify all of the differences between your RK and an SG. For example, it's extremely likely that the main wiring harnesses are differenct. I say this because the SG has an interconnect harnesss (for the gauges, radio controls, etc.) while the RK does not have an interconnect harness.

Personally, I think if you spent $1,000 or so for a stretched gas tank, along with the stretched bags project, your interest in modifying your bike would be sated, at least for a while, and make for an exceptionally cool RK to boot.

If you do the SG conversion, see if you can come up with a fix for the broken fairing brackets that seem to plague so many of us EG/SG owners.
