go get the 08 s.g you will not regret it i promise. i have a black 08 s.g and there is no other bike that can compare. i left the dealer today after getting her a full 20k service headed home down some country roads all i can say about the 08 s.g is WOW.
Kidding. Just didn't want to seem like I was parroting everyone else.
They're right about the gals though - I really don't know why, but my SG is the first bike I've had that my wife would get on. No idea why. And to some, I suppose that would be a negative.
True story though. Couldn't even get her on the King even after I bought a rather nice passenger pillion for her.
Come to the Darkside Luke! You will love the bagger. Some may disagree but I think the 08s are an excellent choice. There are tons of parts available and most of the bugs are worked out. 6 gallon tank, 6 speed tranny, 96" engine - very nice all around.

What are the pros and cons of this platform? What might I be overlooking?
I am ready to pull the trigger once I find a buyer for my SuperGlide.
I was curious to find out more about what you refer about the amazing difference between the 08 and the 09.
The way the 09 handels compaired to the 08 is a huge difference. I have 20K on my 08 and I would not trade it for a 09 but if I were to by new I would go for the 09 if you can. With all the frame changes they made the bike just seems to be "tighter" not as "loose" in the twisties, not to say the SG's don't handel (cause they do) but I can definately feel the difference. Just my .02. Either way you will be hooked. Jump in the water's fine
You can't go wrong with either 08 or 09. Only you know if you are ready for a bagger or not. Took me a while to get there but now that I am I won't go back.
It took me a while to make the change but glade I did. Went from a 1998 Fat boy to 08 Glide love the glide miles are really easy and the tunes are great. Haven't added it yet but a brace is a must.
