I put some 575's on a UC. It took at least eight hours to install the handlebars, heck probably even more time. I have the service manual and would do the job over again and not even think of taking it to the dealer. I have satisfaction that it was done right and also gives me an even more understanding of my scooter.

I had one problem with the TBW when I wired it incorrectly, thank God I had the service manual to set me correct on the pin numbers and the wire colors.

I figure it took 5 to 6 hours tops, unless you take into consideration the time to drive to the stealers to get new grips becauce the old ones didn't look good with the new bars, than back again because the old levers didn't look good with the new grips, than to the store for more beer to stand there and look at everything. I can't imagine it would take ANY trained Harley Tec 8 hours.

When i did my Bars it took all of 8hrs, because of the angle of the Bars and the sharp corner it was a PITA but well worth it.

I would not hesitate to pull the fairing and bars again. Take your time. If you are not familiar with taking on the job of doing the bars. Take it one step at a time and get used to what is being done, Pull the fairing and put it back on. Check brackets while you have it off and maybe pull the radio. This will give you some access to the bar clamps. Next time pull your ignition this can be a pain the first time if you have never seen it done. I replaced the bars and inner fairing a couple weeks ago. I did not put the wires internally so that would make a difference. I did however replace all the cables. I took my time and had it done in about 8 hrs. This does not include tear down time. You have to understand that this did include radio, all guages being installed and wired, Hog tune speaker change along with the Hog pod, sweeper bars and cables, clutch cable replaced. It was a lot of work but I could not and would not pay a dealer $1000 to do this same job. Make your self familiar with your bike. Pull the exhaust. Take the covers off and inspect components without removing any of them. Get used to how things go together and how they work. Biggest problem with most of us working on a bike is the unknown. Go for it just go at it slow.

I've done bars on both my SG and just finished my RG this past weeked. If you're doing JUST bars...then 2-3 hours is about right. If you are doing internal wiring, switching hand controls and changing out cables, 8 hours is about right. Swapping the wiring from the switch housings takes some time and removing the exhaust to get at the clutch cable can be time consuming. Like others have said, it's not hard, but if you're doing all that work it is time consuming for sure!

Gotta compare apples to apples here.

Installing bars on a RoadKing or Fatboy is a LOT easier and faster than a Dresser with a fairing.

I did a mini-ape on my RG. The hardest part was the molex connector. I thought is was a PITA for the many wires. Still with wiring and all no way 8 hours, and I took my time and listed all the wires. Even with my RK and I had to solder the extensions it was more like 3 hours, taking my time. I'm not sure why 8 hours is being quoted. I must be missing something..... Oh yea, overhead.
