Talking to the dealer today about the labor to install some Yaffe Monkey Bars(mini apes). They said it would take about eight hours to install these on my 08 streetglide. Does this sound right or are they just jamming me up for extra hours at $84 a pop?
anyone can do a bar swap..no matter the skill level as long as you take your time and use the manual. that being said..no matter what your skill level, this will take some time to do. quoted 6-8 hours is probably about right. thing is, they may not want to do it and are quoting you on the high side. new bars, especially with internal wiring, should come with two percocet..lol

I remember going to pick up my old FXDC from getting new street slammers installed along with all new diamondback braided cables, reading over the bill & suddenly feeling sick to my stomach! I'm sorry & I don't give a sh*t what anyone says, it doesn't take no 6-8 hours to swap out bars on any bike, running new wires or not. They're not working on the space shuttle for pete sakes! And $84/hr??? Who are they- Doctors? I'm sorry, I love H-D, love their products, but when it comes to what they charge us for labor they definately ARE "stealerships" and they're not stupid...they know it.
Can't see how it should take 8 hours to change bars, 4 to 5 hours at most, and that leaves time for donuts and coffee. Most of the time lost on work is not having the right tools.
Here in CA with a shop rate of $110 per hr, they quoted me $1000 P&L to put mini apes on my RG with the wires in the bars. I did it myself and I saw why they charge a lot, its a pitfa to run 28&32 wires thru the bars. Maybe its not as hard when there is no radio or cc wires going through.
sounds right. I had bars put on this winter. They said 4 hrs for install and 8 hrs if I wanted the cables hidden. I got the Klock Werks bars and he said because of the way the routing was (simple) he did it without charging me the 8 hrs.
