Speaker upgrades are the simplest and most cost efficient upgrade to your Harley's sound system. Many do that first and like the upgrade on its own. If you then find you need more power you can add any one of a variety of amplifiers from Hogtunes, Biketronics, Arc Audio, Bazooka, and Hawg Wired depending on your budget and your preference for power. There is a sticky thread at the top of the touring section that has links to a Do It Yourself thread where it covers many of these points including step by step install guide.

I wouldn't waste your money on the dynaxorb or any other thing more than a cheap $5 XTC speaker baffle which is available on eBay. Fairings aren't the best accoustic device in the first place and the dynaxorb mat won't direct much of anything back through the speakers. It's works best in a speaker enclosure that's truly square to the opening and also works better with subs than anything else IMHO.

There are many speakers out there between 60.00 and 110.00 that will compliment the sound from your fairing mounted audio. (i.e. Hogtunes, JBL GTO's, Infinity Kapa's, MB Quart, JL Audio, Hertz, and many more) Just be sure to get the correct ohm rating for your head unit and most are plug and play. I've had great success with Hogtunes, Hertz, and the JBL's, but like the service from Hogtunes which is always outstanding from a guy who's been a long standing member of this forum.

Just a few bit's of info.

Thanks for the info. I'll see how the set-up works without the dynaxorb.

I asked Pez about the dynaxorb and was told to not waste my money. I just put the new Hogtunes in my 06 RG and they are extremely loud (and that was without the outer installed yet). I'm quite sure you will be very pleased with just a speaker change.

Has anyone tried hogtunes 7" woofers that go in the vented lowers? I just installed j&m 7.25s in the fairing, and there 250 watt amp 2 channel. Its definately louder than stock, but if you turn up the bass hardly any at all it still distorts.
its not $559 worth of better if you know what I mean. I noticed you need hogtunes 40.4 amp [160 watts] to run both fairing and lower speakers. Im stuck on whether to order there 160 watt 4 channel amp and sell my 250 and get the 7" woofers or not. I like bass and loud undistorted sounds! not like these young punks and there boom boom cars, just to soundf good and hit hard when you want it too. the hogtunes amp can also fade or adjust from front to lower, cause I read of alot of people on here that say lower speakers are a waist, you cant here them. any info or input will be greeeeeatly appreciated as i dont want to waist any more$ or time thanks in advance.

Another option instead of changing speakers are the Cycle Sounds Power Pucks. Install these and each speaker will be putting out 45W without the use of an additional amp. I am still waiting on my free set to review (you listening Ed?) but I spent a lot of time learning all the ins and outs of these and here is what I know.

Stock speakers are rated at 22W each. However through laboratory testing (with an oscilloscope)it has been determined that with the vehicle speed sensor in use (actuates radio volume) the speakers are only able to put out 11W each. that is half of the wattage they are supposed to put out. The chip in the HK radio overheats as a result of the speed sensor and that is what cuases this problem. The information is from an extremely reliable source but I unfortunately have not received the literature or the "proof" from the tests. It does make perfect sense and I am waiting on my set of power pucks so I can do my own evaluation as it is difficult to describe the differences in sound without hearing them in person.

The power pucks also have gain and tone adjustments on them that allow you to fine tune the sound for the type of music that you like to listen to. Here is a link to them on teh Cycle Sounds site. take a read and please let me know what you think about these as I am really curious to hear everyone else's opinion.

Thanks!

Drew

I'm still on the fence on either going for the HD Boom spkrs or the Hog Tunes that have a tweeter and mid on the grill for about the same price for my SG?

.

As long as you have the stock H/K head unit,.....you'll have the distortion.
