I hate the damn things. Yes I am generally in favor of anything that makes us more visible and less likely to be street pizza but I find them extremely distracting and annoying. They are worse than extremely loud pipes.

I think the non motorcycling public doesn't have a clue what they are. I can just see some old cager having an accident trying to pull over because he thinks there is a MC cop behind him. I sure as heck wouldn't want to be on a group ride with someone behind me with one constantly flashing in my mirror like there was some sort of problem.

I understand the reasons why you guys think they are wonderful but they really rub me the wrong way. If that is the result with someone who gets it, imagine what some old man that hates motorcyclists or some punk from the hood thinks when you are coming at them or behind them. You might draw more attention than you want.

Just my two cents. I do have extra lights and use them, it's just the modulating that puts me over the edge - like watching one of those Japanese commercials that drove people crazy. <G>
In seven years of using a modulator on two bikes I've had one person pull over, a few slow down briefly and then speed back up, and two or three cagers inform me at a traffic light that my headlight has a "short." Never once had anyone even hint that they were irritated by them, although one biker I toured with said they "hypnotized" him when I was behind him .

In a group ride I use low-beams, as there is no need for high-beams in that situation IMO.

And mine (Signal Dynamics) came with the ability to turn the modulation off, so I can choose if I wish to **** off the group leader. ;^)

Mine is seven years old and only has three modes: high- and low-sensitivity and off. The new Kisan modulators have more modes. I never take it off high-sensitivity, though.

Everyone is welcome to their own opinion. FWIW - I turn my modulator off when I'm riding in a group for the exact reason you mentioned. I don't want the light flashing in the mirrors of my fellow riders. When I'm riding solo, I almost always have it on.

i have no dog in this fight, (modulating vs non-modulating) but when you are on a group ride, don't you run low beams? except for maybe the 2 lead bikes, if someone is running high beams, that would get irritating as well....

i thought that was one of the stipulations to make it dot legal, that it would flash only on high beams, during daylight hours.

did you modify your installation any? i notice that there are some here who are doing that.

Nope, totally stock.
Regarding the daylight part, it comes with a light sensor that turns it off at night or in a tunnel. As to the hi-beams, the federal law states
S7.9.4.1 A headlamp on a motorcycle may be wired to modulate either the upper beam or the lower beam from its maximum intensity to a lesser intensity ...

If by sensitivity you mean a higher or lower frequency of flashing, then mine has this also (hi, low, & off).

I'm not sure what else you'd need!
