Default J&M full-face speakers

Does anyone have experience with these? I bought the set and after installation and listening, I couldn't believe what I was hearing... more than I'd hoped for...

...until I got to speed. At 65-70mph I can't identify what I'm listening to due to wind noise. I added velcro behind the speakers bringing them 'out' about 1/4", trying to get them closer to me ears but haven't tested yet (snow in Memphis). They're closer to but not snug on my ears.

I just wondered if I'm going in the right direction. Seems logical, but maybe purchasing the pads you'd use in 1/2 helmets, then adding velcro might be the way to go...? I also have the 1/2 helmet J&Ms. They strap tightly to my ears, very comfortable with the J&M pads. Those too haven't been tested but there's no doubt they'll be better than the full-face.

All I can think is to keep bringing the full-face speakers out until they're like the 1/2 helmet. Any ideas?

Tkx!!

Why don't you pm me a number and we can meet up sometime. I have both the premium setup in my ff helmet and the next grade down in my kids ff helmets. You want the speakers to be touching your ears when the helmet is on. I am in Collierville and can meet you sometime to show you my set ups. With the premium setup I was MORE than pleased with the sound quality. I was surprised at how low I had to leave the volume so it wouldn't hurt my ears. Sounds like something isn't quite setup right with yours because I rode with the local HOG chapter on Thursday night for a dinner ride and on the way home I was doing 80 mph and talking on the cb/listening to the radio without any problems at all.

I know this sounds silly, but I can hear my helmet speakers better if I am wearing earplugs. The plugs cut out a lot of wind noise when wearing a full face helmet. Also, make sure your speakers are positioned directly in line with your ear canals, otherwise the speakers sound cheap and tinney. You could also try using half a cottonball in each ear. Believe me, on a long road trip your ears will thank you.

I can hear everything better when I ride with earplugs....except the wind.

Earplugs, very interesting. I usually save those for snoring . I happen to keep several in my bike-bag for trips.

The 'Ultra Slim' speakers came with the set they sold me. I think that's the problem. The speakers come nowhere near my ear. I just got done filling the ear-hole of the headset with foam, then these 'Slim' atop the foam. It's better, a tad uncomfortable. May be wrong but I'm not convinced these speakers aren't meant for best use with pouches (1/2 helmet).

I'm likely going to purchase speakers that're more like headphones, with the round pad surrounding. Part #s HSCP-DS12 or HSCP-SS22 but I don't understand the difference between the two per their descriptive.

>>Part #s HSCP-DS12 or HSCP-SS22 but I don't understand the difference between the two per their descriptive.<<

This is what they list:

HSCP-SS22 - Wide Fidelity 55mm Component Helmet Speaker
HSCP-DS12 - Enhanced Fidelity 55mm DynaPort Component Helmet Speaker

That's it. It means nothing to me. Is one better than the other? I'll guess 'enhanced' is better but purely a guess...

09RKC ,,,,,,

what brand/model of helmet did you install that new J&M headset into ? ,,,,,,,

acoustics of the different helmets play a very big part in the quality of the music that you hear ,,,,

that is why J&M offers ported helmet speakers, non ported speakers, etc, so that we can service quite a few different brands with top-quality sound ,,,,

09RKC,

Looks like "the man" just give you his email. Be sure to get in touch with him. I have been using J&M products for years with no problems. I bet it has to do with the speaker location. Mine are in a Shoei full face and a Arai 3/4. I just upgraded the Shoei helmet for my 09 Ultra.

Good Luck!
