Street Glide Inventory?
I originally had my heart set on a 2 tone, flamed out, 113" Ultra (SERT) with a huge puffy heated seat, 21" spinner front rim, every chrome option possible, 200 rear tire, Bassani Road Rage 2 into 1's, power saddlebags, Legend Air Ride slammed suspension, and a Woody's blower. My wife put her foot on you know what, so I had to settle for a Streetglide. It hurts, but I can still dream! I see Streetglides everywhere, it's like an invasion. Why is MoCo doing this?

Back to the topic at hand. The SG seems to be a pretty good seller here. I was at 2 different dealers this past weekend. Both had a couple on the floor with sold tags. From what I gather it's a good seller in VA. I know of 6 off the top of my head that are within 10 miles of me. Now off topic a lil. Negative attitude or not, I kinda agree with Mitt, but can see the other guys point as well. If you just have to have the rear fender, silver gauges, black wall tires, etc. Then yeah, go get a SG. If you just want to ditch a tour pak, and sleek it up a bit, I think you are better off with an Ultra or Classic. It's all a matter of personal preference. I think the bike will be a lot like the Fat Boy. Great seller year after year, with your buddies saying, "Why didn't you get a Heritage and take stuff off?". Whatever the most cost effective way is, it don't really matter. I think it's here to say in the H-D line up, as well as the Fat Boy.
One thing is for sure. A SG is like Dale Earnhardt. You were either for him or against him. Personally I was for him.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
And something that came over me as I rode it home that day, sitting at a light as a group of SIX Softails of various ilk (mostly classics & standards) rolled by on the cross street: Gosh, EVERYONE'S got one of those. Yup, stock leather bags. Studs on 'em. Two pairs of identical paint jobs. Seems about 70% of the Harleys I see around here are Softails. I've seen two other SGs in the month that I've had mine. But the thing is, I don't care! I don't need a bike to define me; I'll define the bike, thank you. Maybe it's the benefit of being an actual geeze (50 next week! Yipes!): You do things because you like 'em, not because it says something about you or makes others think something about you.
For each individual who buys a Harley, there is something about a particular model that grabs him or her. Maybe it's what they can afford; maybe it's some vision they've had in their head since they were a kid (like me), maybe it's fit, feel, or what the dealer had that day, or just whatever image they conjur of themselves riding the thing. It's too bad that some need the self-security boost they somehow get by dissing someone else's choice simply because they chose something else, or kept theirs stock, or added pipes we wouldn't have chosen.
As for the basis of this thread, the dealer I bought from is waiting on three SGs that are already sold. None on the floor, but he'd love to get his hands on a couple that weren't spoken for. Around here (Nashville), they're selling very well, apparently.
