I stopped by my local "Stealer" Sunday (as I do once a week - stop to shop ) and I was talking to my salesman. I asked him if they still were moving the S/G's like hotcakes and he replies they sell everyone they get in. They can never get them longer 2-3 days on the floor if it isn't already spoken for.
For the record, they claim to be the highest volume dealer in the Detroit area too. With that being said, he has no problem selling them at MSRP - no more no less.
The funny thing is he just ordered himself one. He's been drooling over them since they came out and he said everytime he sells one he sells it with envy becasue he wants one. Well now he'll have one in a few weeks.
So does anyone have idea how the S/G inventory is in your area?
My dealer has had a 95" grey one on the floor for a while, but everything else has sold or is spoken for. He said the overwhelmingly popular color is black. I fell in love when I went back and looked at the GM's 113" highly customized one. For what it's worth, he told me that it was the best new model seller since the Fatboy, and that was a record setter of high proportion, They don't see any signs of sales slowing. Heck, they'll probably drop a 6 speed and fix the brake squeal for 07 One area the HD didn't anticipate, according to him, was the impact the SG would have on RK Custom sales. In this part of the world it has all but halted them.
Well here you go - at the dealer to pick up my new RK a month ago and they had one (SG) sitting on the floor - I asked the salesman how they were selling (cause my opinion there a rip off by Harley) stripping parts and jacking prices in the name of "new model" ...
He said "I won't order anymore cause I can't sell them, people would rather buy the Standard or E Classic and do there own thing rather than have Harley take off the lower faring and driving lights" ... I suppose it's different in every area of the Country but it seems to be what's going on here.
Makes sense really - the lower faring has got to be worth a few hundred bucks or more on Ebay yes/no ? Why not pay the same for an E-Classic then change it at will by putting on or taking off the stock parts. I would rather take off the parts and have them then not have them at all.
Kind of not dressing right in Winter you can always take off the extra sweater - but if you don't have it with you - you can't add it if you don't have it.
I guess this thread is rather useless - it's just gonna be the standard party line, if you own an SG then it's the cat's a$$ and so on etc, etc...
I thought the guy was looking for inventory comments - not comments by people that own them(Hottest bike in the line-up), throwing up all over themselves about what a great decision they made.
Well it was refreshing to see someone actually admit they made a mistake with a purchase be it an RK, SG, or whatever, dude stood up an admitted it wasn't the bike for him and then dumped it. (2006king)
Hat's off to ya' there "2006king" your not the sharpest knife in the drawer but at least your honest - LOL
