I had C-3,4 & 5 screwed together with a plate and a bone on each side, back in 01. I had good insurance and I was off for 6 months. I feel better now at 60, than I did at 40. Just don't rush it. Try being a heman and you WILL damage it and you're screwed! Your back. Best of luck, I feel for you.

I had a discectomy at L-4 and L-5 back in 1989. I think it was about six months before I got back on and rode for any distance.

They've come a long way since then with all types of surgical procedures. Hell, I'm walkin around bionic now, with the whole left side of my body full of titanium due to a motorcycle accident.

I still have problems with my back from time to time, but not near as bad as before the surgery. I can live with this and if it gets to bad I just go to the chropracter and he fixes me up. Of course I keep the bottle of Alieve in every vehcile I own.

I'd just suggest to not get in a hurry, follow the doctors direction up to the point where you're permanent and stationary.

Had my surgery back in 1976. 56 now. I can do about 800 miles now since I went back to the air ride on my FLHPI. Had a Comfort Stitch on it for a short time and could only do about 300 miles. The wife had her surgery Jan. of '08 and is still having problems. She just won't give herself the chance to heal, she keeps trying to do things too soon. Be patient and let yourself heal properly and it will all be good. Go to an air ride seat and you will be much happy.

Side impact car accident screwed my back up in 1982. Finally had surgery/fusion at the U of Mn Hospitals in '94 when L5 blew. I did no riding for all of 1994, did everything my doctor and neurologist told me to, and have very little problems. Recently did an Iron Butt SaddleSore 1000 without any problems.

My doctor was a Cuban immigrant by the name of Carlos Heroes. He was the only doctor I saw in three days wearing a suit and tie when he made his rounds. He truly appreciated the opportunity to be an American.
