Default Zumo 550 Question--------->

I have a Zumo 550 and wanted to know how you have it installed? Now that I have the AUX jack I can connect the zumo so that I have XM. Any advice on set up would really help me out.

I just wired it with the ciger plug and leave it pluged in all the time. For the aux plug that will bring the voce directions to your speakers. You will not be able to listen to the radio with it in the aux mode. IF you use the part of the chip in the 550 for music I think that it will work and drop the volume while it gives you directions.

I bought the gas lid mount from Kuryakyn. A little pricey, but very very well made. I then drilled a small hole for the wire thru the lid mount and then next to the gas cap in the dash plate. Only advice I would give if you choose this method is to make sure you allow for clearance when the cap is closed. Ask me how I know this? Anyhow, I then replaced the lock with a push button. Not sure why Harley still puts locks on gas lids anyway. Who wants to siphon out a measly 5-6 gallons of gas? Anyhow, I love this setup and having the Zumo directly below me, instead of perched out on one of the sides looks aesthetically better.

I wired mine into a spare plug in my headlight nacelle. Very clean looking install.

i mounted mine on the handlebar and routed the power into the fairing and attached it to the back of the cigarette lighter. You can get a piggyback quick disconnect to use on the back of the cig. lighter so that you don't have to splice into the wires.

I also placed the XM antenna for the Zumo on the top of the factory radio. The magnet holds it in place.

I did the same thing. I went to a marine supply house and got a waterproof plug, cut the wire and hooked it up. Make sure you change out the fuse as well. That's all I had to buy. I can take it off in seconds, and it works great.

Fot the XM radio, you'll need the XM module for the Zumo. I don't have any experience with it. Some say you can mount it under the fairing, others say they get poor reception that way.

Why change out the fuse?

The fuse that came with the adaptor was much too big for the Zumo. I think the adaptor came with a 20A, but the Zumo calls for a 2A, if memory serves me correctly.

i bought the H-D handlebar mount, and yes i removed the fuel tank, ran the wire through the wire trough, installed wire in fuse block with 2 amp fuse, and i didn't use the crimp connector it was soldiered and heat shrink tubing for the power wire, ground wire used a crimp on eye connector and installed on ground wire stud
