Default Stock 2009 FLHTC seat-comfortable?

I have been looking for a comfortable touring seat for my 08 RK. I was at my dealers and saw and sat on a 09 FLHTC and the seat felt very comfortable. I don't have any time on the seat so I don't know if its good for long-ride comfort. I have a new King TP and hardbags on the way and I need to get a new seat. My low-profile stock seat is nice for bike night but when we ride momma wants a nice pad for her tush! Is the stock 09 FLHTC seat comfortable?

I traded my 08 RKC in for an 09 FLHTCU and the stock seat is great. I added a mustang backrest and it is very comfortable. I had a sundowner seat with HD adjustable backrest on the RKC and it was a great seat as well. I do not believe that you would be disappointed with either.

The stock seats are all comfortable if you're only riding for an hour or two........or if you're going to stop and take a lot of breaks. On the short haul, they're comfortable and the Electra Glide seat is very comfortable.

However, You asked about a seat for touring......you're going to have to go to an aftermarket seat. If you're putting four or five hours in the saddle stopping only for gas and going again....putting ten, twelve or fifteen hours in the saddle the stock seat will give you what I (and others) refer to as monkey butt.

It'll itch, it'll burn, it'll feel like your tail bone is goin to come right out of your butt. In the summer you'll be all sweatty because they're vinyl and don't breath.

An aftermarket (Corbin, Mustang, etc.) has leather seat panels so they breath. They're also a much firmer seat, giving you support over the long haul.

I've got Corbin seats on both bikes. To walk up and just touch them, there's no way you could ever imagine that seat would ever be comfortable after eight or ten hours in the saddle. But I've been to Canada, Mexico and ocean to ocean and the monkey butt is just not a problem. I can't explain it other than it's real leather so it doesn't sweat....it breathes and it provides support where the HD seats don't.

But don't just take my word for it, ask those who have done the long haul rides and typically ride at least 700-800 miles in a day.......ask them what kind of seat they have. Here's a vote for Corbin.

Or you may just buy a AirHawk seat cushion and leave the stock seat as is. I spent 3500.00 on four seats on my last bike only to end up with a Airhawk cushion. None of them are comfy compared to the air cushion because you can adjust it to the level of comfort for your body. You can get them on line for about 139.00

Keep in mind the Airhawk and gel pads will raise you up and change your riding position. This may impact how your feet maintain contact with the ground and where your head position is in relation to your windshield possibly adding increased wind buffeting on the head.
