Shoulder surgery CAN be worse than knee for the simple reason that often times its on your dominant arm, so you notice loss of strength, range of motion alot more. Factor in as well that your shoulder is a compound joint instead of just the hinge joint of the knee, and you have more chance to tweak the joint during the healing process. NOW, having said all that, i have had both knee and shoulder surgery, and found my recovery "harder" for the knee surgery. As far as riding, i'd certainly be careful to wait to ride until you can walk with absolutely no pain. having to handle the added weight of the bike on a repaired joint might be more stress than it can handle early in the healing process.

Everyone is different. I had a lot of surgeries before my replacement in 2/07 and had problems with range of motion due to scar tissue. Had to eliminate the heel shifter but could use it now. Rehab is most important. I would give it a couple months. Good luck.

I had ACL surgery twice thanks to hockey. Took me about 2 months before I was able to ride again.

I have not had knee replacement yet, but I have had a lot of other orthopeadic proceedures with rehab following a bike crash. My opinion is.... get a morphine pump for immediately after the surgery, and get hooked up to the CPM (constant passive motion) machine, right out of surgery. Get 10mg Norco for therapy sessions..they will prescribe two, but do three if you can..take about 20 min prior to therapy session..really helps you get the maximum benefit. Caution if you do get Norco, the generic brand that wal-mart has sucks...quality control is bad. Some pills have too much, most don't have enough...they are by MALLK.. Watson has the best generic. These techniques should put you back in the saddle muy pronto. Good Luck, and Happy trails.

You can always use riding your bike as an excuse to exercise your knee. A 2,500 mile trip should have you good as new. Just kidding. I hope you get better soon.......just go into the gasrage and talk to your bike and explain the situation. Make the bike feel good by waxing it down. Talk sweet nothings where the chrome meets the paint. Love up on the bike....your girl will understand.
