I don't think a one of us has not rode at some point and time when others will not. I always rinse off ASAP and like it better after the rains have come along and rinsed most of it off.
I am in the same boat. Temps in NH will not be quite as high as in Metro Boston area. I am planning on picking my bike up from the dealer in a couple of weeks - although I have been tempted to do so this morning. From what I have seen in Boston, the roads are a real mess. Potholes and sand will be the major issues. I guess it really depends on whether you plan on highway vs secondary roads. In the city or on secondary roads, you may encounter potholes when you least expect them (such as when you have to swerve suddenly to aviod a collision with a blue hair or a soccer mom driving, smoking and talking on the cell phone all at once).
I don't know why I was just hoping my first ride would be like the ideal ride. Sunny, warm, and worry free. Probably going to wait till next week or two. Still waiting on the tourpack to show up along with my tail light and grips.
Some rough roads in your area and on a day like this, potholes will be had to see as the water will fill them to the rim and hide them. If you do, godspeed so we don't have to read "new bike down tomorrow" or "can I true my own wheel?" Just joking with yah. I would not and it has nothing to do with the dirtying of the bike.
