I put new bars and hand controls on my RG. After finished everything up, when I go to start the bike, the start switch operates my taillight! I double and triple checked
all my pigtail wiring pinouts and have everything right against my Service Manual.
I've also checked to make sure I don't have any pinched wires in the clamshell on the bars...nothing.
Can someone post what theirs states so I can be sure I'm looking at the correct thing.
I've got a 2006 RoadGlide. If you could list colors / Pin # for the left and right controls it would be appreciated.
The easiest way to check is the wire colors. They should be the same at the ends of the Deutsch connectors on your handlebar harnesses and correspond to the interconnect Deutsch connectors they plug into.
Also, the numbered chambers "wrap around" the Deutsch connectors; i.e. chamber 1 is above chamber 12, not 7; chamber 2 is above chamber 11, not 8 and so forth.
If the wires are in the correct chambers, I have no idea for a simple fix.
Not sure why you would need another Service Manual's wiring diagram for your bike. Do you think your Service Manual has a misprint or there was a subsequent revision?????
Hope you get it fixed.

I wish I could help. I know hearing tips AFTER doing a mod can aggravate the *&^% of of a person and I have fallen to that myself. What has hepled me in the past, especially with electrical and wiring is to have a digital camera and take several picturs of the set up prior to removal. This way you have an original or pre-problem condition to look back to.
I hope your problem is corrected soon. From what I have seen here, (I am new to this site),you will have a solution real quick.
Good luck

I did my SG with no problem at all and used the same diagram. Maybe just a brain fart. I know what you're saying about the numbering wrapping around, I did catch that. I will double check to make sure the wiring colors of the harness matches up to the interconnect on the bike..I seem to think this was not the case.
Not sure this will help but after I did mine bar change I was in a similar position. What I found out was that the one of the three leads into the ignition plug had pulled out. Not enough to see it but enough that the bike would not turn over. I too checked every wire and could not find the problem. Someone on this forum gave me the tip and sure enough that was the fix.
On deutch connectors make sure they are pushed in all the way. I know on my '98 RK when I changed the handle bar and went in with internal wiring I did not push the conneter in and had a similiar problem.

+1 It's the same with the 12-wire Deutsch connectors on an EG/SG/RG pre-'07 (when HD went to Molex connectors). You should be able to tug on the end of each wire as it enters into the connector without the wire moving. If it moves, chances are it will move when the connectors are joined and not make electrical contact with the corresponding wire in the other connector.
But why pushing the "start" button would turn on the brake light is a doozy of a problem.
Man, i'll tell ya what, i was feeling anxiety just reading that you are having that problem, i can't imagine going through it. Nothing worse than "finishing" a project and running into issues Good luck with the trouble shooting.
I figured it out...Did something dumb. I got the grey and black connectors reversed!
Wasn't thinking. 5 minute swap of connectors and all is working OK now.
