Solo from Maryland leaving on the 29th, depart Sturgis on the 5th. Head up into Yellowstone, then Bob Marshall on into Glacier. Leave Montana and hit Teddy Roosevelt Natl Park in N.D. and then back to Maryland. Hooch camping along the way... Estimate time on the road three weeks.
Got some bad news the other day. This riding buddy of mine said his wife booked a lodge for them in Branson during Sturgis week. We went up last year and really enjoyed all the bikes and the scenery of South Dakota. I am sure his wife arranged their trip to insure we didn't go again this year. Talk about hen pecked, guess I'll go alone this round.
Still on the fence. If I go (first time), it will probably be solo and will camp with a bud coming in from the left coast (SF area). I want to go...just having a hard time getting off the pot. Don't really want to leave my wife for the week to 10 days I would be gone and she is adamant about not going. Sigh...........
RobotLooee and myself are making the trip with a couple others. Got a great deal on a place about a block from downtown. We're probably going to take off from Kansas City Friday night, meet up in Iowa with one of the dudes from Chicago, and head up the next morning for Sturgis. Staying through Saturday.
Eight of the group leaving Dallas on the 2nd, but going to Colorado for the first few days. then to Sturgis on Wednesday or Thursday, Staying a few blocks from downtown and will stay thru Monday morning the 12th. then a quick trip back to Big D,
Plan on pulling a trailer with 6 bikes both ways....too much trouble for gas stops and such with NEW riders going in group (less than 1 year on two wheels) ,
well, actually my wife and kids meet me there. since we have a quiet cabin in the hills, it makes for a great family vacation...even though i ditch them nearly every day. they've gotten pretty accustomed to the "bath" and outhouse. we do take one day to go to mt rushmore to eat breakfast and tour as a family. this will be our 8th yr...kids have been there every year of their lives
Went the last 3 years in a row, so probably won't go this year. All the shopping gets to me after a while.
Still planning to do an awsome road trip through Yellostone down to Moab, over to Bonneville, then back up Idaho ( NO INTERSTATES ) just winding back roads
