I visited a couple of dealers today looking at the SERG, I think they did an awesome job with the design of the bike. BUT, I was very dissappointed with the lack of quality control on these high dollar models. On both bikes I found bubbles in the paint or a difference in the shade of paint on the speedo/tach covers. The rear bag fillers where the turn signals are located were misaligned and one barely had one coat of paint on it. Also the seats did not meet the console on the tank, prolly a quarter inch gap. For a luxury item with a price tag of 31k, I would think a little more care would be taken prior to shipment.
That is suprising. I've always felt HD had some of the best quality paint jobs in the business. The difference in the shade on the instrument nacelle could be from the material. Remember that is plastic. If you were comparing it to the tank a slight difference would be expected. Light and viewing angle can play a big part in that as well, especially with metallic and pearl paints.
The bubbles and alignment of the facia are definitely QC issues in my opinion. The seat is a set-up issue at that dealer. They should be able to make that right with a little time and patience.
I wouldn't let any of those things turn me away from buying one of those. Good luck on your purchase.
From: Dallas, TX & Santa Fe, NM when I can find the time....
Wow...I thought HD was supposed to have fantastic paint jobs too. That's rough to hear.
I was at the Dealer yesterday and saw a CVO SE Road Glide in person. Grey, pewter. VERY SWEET!!! That color combo works. Salesman said a girl bought it and was coming in that day to pick it up.
I've had my SERG a week and gone over it with a fine tooth comb. As far as paint, fit, finish and QC I'd give my the CVO folks a 10X10 in every category. The bike is not just an incredible machine but a real work of art.
You'll see that I posted an experience I had yesterday about loosing my right bag, it makes me sick with the loss but I still love the bike.
Oh, and the engine, what can I say; it is freaking amazing. The power and torque or unbelievable!!!!!!
Yes, agree with all,
I wouldn't buy any new vehecle with those issue's
let alone a high end model.
Go figure, I hope the mo co isn't slipping and this what we can expect as the
norm from now on
I was very happy with the paint quality on my 2000 FXST. Dropped a ratchet socket on the tank (learned not to drink and do minor wrenching ) and it cracked the clearcoat but the paint below was fine.
But on my '09 Road King I've already got a tiny paint chip on the tank and I didn't doing anything that would have caused that. Paint seems a bit thin....
They are very proud of those bikes. I tried to deal on one yesterday and the dealer
would not budge.. they have one sitting on the floor and this is the deal I turned down.
$ 32,999 (30,999 is MSRP)

$800 custom re-do on seat, dyno-tuned, you name it I probably have it.
After being over priced on the SE Road glide they offered me a whopping $16,000 for
mine. As nice as that bike is I had to walk away..
