Default Bagger poll: Have you lost a bag while riding?

A couple bagger riders have posted up about losing a bag while riding due to the quick release pins failing so I thought it would be useful to get an idea of how widespread this problem is. Thanks for responding.

Never had that problem of the bags falling off or the pin failing. I live in an area where there are many roads that are either bumpy, holey, or just plain horrible. Bags stayed on well. The exhaust rubber, that is another issue for another thread, for another time.

Nope, she's always stayed on the bike. One time, though she almost fell off. We were doing about 85 and hit a 4-5" pavement change where there was no warning sign posted and she flew up in the air and had to grab my rider backrest to pull herself back down onto the seat. Other than that, never lost her.

70,000 on this bike, never lost a saddlebag. Part of my riding preinspection always covers checking the saddlebags. Don't ever expect to lose one either. I have had one fly open once. My own fault....

In my short 2600 miles I have not had a problem. One of the reasons I like this forum is for information, I check my bags often because of what I have read here.

No and I don't ever expect to. I suspect carelessness and/or really bad luck is behind these lost bag incidents. Losing a bag certainly isn't a common occurrence.

I spoke with one of the dealer technicians about the luggage bag quick release pins. He mentioned that the quick release pins can split and they should be checked. I never had this happen to me (losing a bag or a split pin) but it may be a good idea to carry a spare pin or 2. I also carry a spare washer.
