Default TTS Mastertune vs Screaming Eagle Race Tuner

Hi Gang,

Have a set of V & H Dresser Duals sitting in my garage. Already have the Stage 1 done, with the Screaming Eagle Race Tuner.

Should I install the pipesnd have the dealer do a dyno with my SERT, or would I be better off in the long run to buy the TTS Mastertune ??

I'd just hate to have to keep spending $$$$ everytime I decide to do a performance upgrade, if the TTS Mastertune program will last me a lifetime .

Does anyone have experience with both ?? What are the pros and cons of either/both ??

The dyno on your SERT also relies on somebody knowing what they are doing, and wanting to put in the time to do it right.

OTOH, would my SERT be worth anything to anybody else, as a used unit, or is it "married" to my bike ???

Thanks in advance !!

I dont have any experience with the SERT but I do with the tts. The tts is very easy to use after learing it...the curve isnt very large with some common sence. The tts allows you to make changes and ride to tune, as you know thats not possible with the sert. Depending on how radical you want your setup, you may still have to do the dyno with the tts.. I only hav pipes and a/c so no major work. I do plan on adding cams and then possibly 103-107" with heads at some point.. I went with the tts over the sert just for the open end use vs having to have the fyno for small stuff, fyi.

I changed to the TTS mastertune from a PCIIIB. Bike has never run better and I tuned it myself with a few tweaks from Doc via email. Once you learn how to use it, you can make changes to the bike and tune it yourself with a laptop computer hooked up. You can calibrate your speedo among other things with it too if you make gear changes or if you just want it to be more accurate.

If you've already done a stage 1, I'd just put the new pipes on and go. I don't think the new exhaust really requires a retune.
I'd give it a try anyway.

I am using a TTS Mastertune and couldn't be happier with the performance. I didn't install myself, I had my indy do it and a Dyno. The bike runs smoother, cooler and the throttle response is crisp.

Your SERT would be useless to anybody but you and your money would be tossed down the crapper if you change tuners, since your bike has Stage I build only.

Consider the TTS if you build the motor up, but for now you're good. Put the pipes on and ride.

TTS made the SERT for HD for years, but when the contract expired HD decided to go on their own with their SEST. So TTS came out with the Mastertune which is essentially the SERT with a couple added goodies thrown in that HD never wanted to do.

If you already have a SERT you are fine and keep using it. You'll be throwing money away if you buy a TTS Mastertune as it won't gain you a thing over the SERT you already have.

Your SERT is married for life to your ECM, only way to sell it is as a matched pair together......but then you have to buy a new ECM after.

i have a 2007 road king and i did the stage download and changed my pipes 2 weeks after buying it. and breather. it ran great until memorial day 2009. the computer died. i took it to the harley shop , they installed a new computer on it and it ran horrible. i took it back and they looked it over, i asked did you put the stage 1 back on it yes we did. but it still ran bad. took it to another harley shop, they checked it out, rode it, but said could not duplicate what i said it was doing. it was running like someone put a governor on it. it reved at 45 instead of 65 like before. i took yet to another harley shop... they rode it, put it on the dyno..hot and cold... i picked it up today..but it runs a little better but not the same as when i first got the download. i only have 15450 miles on it....anyone have any suggestiosn or fixes.... thanks eddie email at pfrickey67@yahoo.com

If you already have the race tuner, then use it!!

No reason to go with a Mastertune. A good dyno operator will get the same job done with either tool, and you already paid for the SERT. I believe you can have the SERT upgraded by TTS to a newer version, but that will not work with the new SEST.
