Default S. E. Race Tuner obsolete!

I have a '06 SG with a SERT. The bike was dyno tuned about 5 years ago. I didn't like the tune so A few years back I downloaded the basic stage 1 map with my computer.
Fast forward present day, I thought I'd give the dyno another shot. Went to the dealer and was shocked when they said they couldn't tune my bike because the race tuner, that I paid hundreds of dollars for, was obsolete and I would have to purchase a Super Race tuner.
Could you believe that B.S.? I guess my only option is to find an indy with older equipment and a dyno.
I have a feeling this may be old news to some but do I have any other options? Should I go to a PCV or thundermax? I plan on calling the motor company on Monday to voice my opinion on how everyone with a SERT is getting screwed. I'm sure it will fall on deaf ears but it may make me feel a little better to vent.

You can probably upgrade the SERT to a TTS for 100 bucks. (You'll have to install the SERT upgrade qualifier to find out for sure). You'll still need to find a tuner who can handle the TTS, since most Harley dealers won't touch it.

Of course, anyone who can tune with a TTS should be able to tune with the SERT interface, since it's essentially the same thing. I'd start by calling around to see if you've got a local tuner who tunes with tts, and ask him if he can also tune with SERT.

I'm kind of in the same boat right now. I just had a new ecm installed, now my tts won't work. I can send my old ecm, along with the new one, and the tts interface to mastertune, and they'll reprogram my interface to communicate with the new ecm. I guess it's a good time to evaluate which tuner I should use going forward, as it might make sense to switch. Not too many local shops use tts, the dealers all want you on the Super Tuner, and the independent shops use Dynojet products.

SERT obsolete BS, my street bob SE 120R is tuned with one(in March 2011 even though it was originally married to the ecm in 2006) and it works very well. Sounds like two things in play. 1; a classic up-sell, the dealer would have you believe your tuner obsolete so he can sell another at a profit. 2; the techs at that particular dealership do not know how to tune with it.

While TTS may indeed be an option as Mike suggests, a skilled tuner can make the SERT work well. Look around you may find better options out there than the dealership would lead you to believe.

It is the MasterTune Tuner, the TTS stands for The Turbo Shop.

+1; look for a SERT tuner but go to the TTS website and run your SERT through the qualifier. SERT was developed by Steve Cole and the product was distributed via the MoCo and nowhere else. Once the MoCo figured out how to dump Steve by basically reverse engineering his software; Steve contract was not renewed and H-D started marketing the SEST. Steve then improved the SERT, made it more user friendly, developed a VTune (self tuning) feature for the DIY guys and put the TTS Mastertune on the market. Your dealer tuner can tune the SERT but they are upselling as Inspector 12 says.

Many of the top tuners believe the TTS is the current state of the art.

Mike,
The bike looks great; not crazy about the RG fairing but the paint, rake and general attitude of the bike is simple and understated but very effective; obviously a custom but without all the flash. I like it.

Just another reason not to purchase HD tuning modules. Why put your tuning in their hands with their obsolete equipment? (or soon to be obsolete)

All they need to do is push out a new firmware update for people with older equipment to keep it up to date. Oh wait, wait I forgot that would be to easy. Never mind

I am leaning towards a ThunderMax Autotuner. Sounds so simple.

If you can get the TTS upgrade, they have an excellent database with very good canned maps. The harley store is just trying to sell you SEPST. You will need the software and cable kit for the SERT to get the information for Master Tune to be able to update. Give them a call.
