This! I took my 2001 SE Road Glide in for a tune and the tech at my stealership had me bring in my SERT. I still have the box it came in and the disc. He was able to use my disc and then dyno'ed it back pretty close to the original tune that was done in '06. He did say that with each new generation of uploads, they drop off the tunes from like ten years back to make room on their dyno computer. It was simply a matter of: 1) using my disc for the info and, 2) having a tech who knew what the hell he was doing.

Was it done by a HD dealer or independent shop?

If you use Amsoil, you will not need to do any tuning. Just pour some in and you will see mega increase in HP, more women's tit's, increase in your salary,
no more dynometer's or race tuners, lol !

my dealer here told me with the electronic fuel injection there is no need for it now they just program their current map for my setup and all is good now why would'nt he try to sell me a tuner if I really needed one

The dealer gets $150ish for the download plus the labor to install. Literally takes minutes to accomplish so his profit margins are good. He is motivated to convince you it is good enough. Since the bikes do generally run better than stock after a down load, budget minded riders are generally satisfied.

Late model bikes are better at compensating for improved exhaust and air intakes than earlier fuel injected bikes were. D&D exhaust even advertises a pipe that doesn't require a tuner or even a download when used with an aftermarket air cleaner because of the efficiency of the fuel injection system to compensate and the design of the exhaust system. The big problem especially with later model bikes it that they start out so lean in terms of air fuel ratio based on EPA requirements they are still miles from a proper tune in terms of making the engine happy for the long haul. Downloads and canned maps will make the bike happier and many riders will be happy with the outcome. For me, the money for a tuner and a reputable dyno tune is money well spent. I prefer the Screamin Eagle Pro Super tuner because it flashes the ecm for proper ignition and fuel curves instead of piggy backing and trying to manipulate the ecm feeds into functioning properly.

if you add the price of the sert and the Dino just to be happy that is your choice but my plugs burn a mild Kcoffee brown bike runs at least 30 to 50 degrees cooler and 90 plus degree weather I only lost about 3 miles per gallon I still get 42 miles per gallon at a third of the cost I am happy what you said makes sense but if the dealer did not try to sell me the serrt and sell me the dyno then I must not have needed it my bike out pulls out my buddies new 110 from the factory I'm happy with my bike hope you are happy with yours thank you for your input you seem like you know what you are talking about but I am satisfied customer money was no issue told the tech I would buy whatever is required I believe he was just being straight honest with me not trying to get into my pocket anymore than they had to I had plenty of money that day with me and made sure he knew that thanks again and if I need to fine tune anything I will look up these threads on here because there is some very knowledgeable guys on here as yourself thank you for your input thanks again Harley Davidson forms
