if you add the price of the sert and the Dino just to be happy that is your choice but my plugs burn a mild Kcoffee brown bike runs at least 30 to 50 degrees cooler and 90 plus degree weather I only lost about 3 miles per gallon I still get 42 miles per gallon at a third of the cost I am happy what you said makes sense but if the dealer did not try to sell me the serrt and sell me the dyno then I must not have needed it my bike out pulls out my buddies new 110 from the factory I'm happy with my bike hope you are happy with yours thank you for your input you seem like you know what you are talking about but I am satisfied customer money was no issue told the tech I would buy whatever is required I believe he was just being straight honest with me not trying to get into my pocket anymore than they had to I had plenty of money that day with me and made sure he knew that thanks again and if I need to fine tune anything I will look up these threads on here because there is some very knowledgeable guys on here as yourself thank you for your input thanks again Harley Davidson forms
As you say, if you are content with the performance of your bike that is what matters. Not knowing the specifics of any mods done to your bike, maybe the download is adequate.
In my case (adding cubic inches, adding compression, changing cams, changing exhaust, and changing the air filter) a download just wasn't going to get there. A dyno tune and tuner were a necessity because of the path I chose, and the cost of the tuner and dyno time were rolled into the "winter special" at the shop that did the work so no extra cost to me. This bike too makes good horsepower and torque while still getting 43 to 45 mpg running two up loaded for the weekend at 80 mph and I never have to down shift when swinging out to pass or climb a hill. Money well spent to achieve the results in my opinion.
Mike,
The bike looks great; not crazy about the RG fairing but the paint, rake and general attitude of the bike is simple and understated but very effective; obviously a custom but without all the flash. I like it.
Thanks for the kind works (excuse the thread hijack). It was a case of winter mods with full-on project creep. Still a couple of things to do to this one (forwards and an open belt primary), but I've been collecting parts for my next build, and am kind of anxious to get started on it.
SERT obsolete BS, my street bob SE 120R is tuned with one(in March 2011 even though it was originally married to the ecm in 2006) and it works very well. Sounds like two things in play. 1; a classic up-sell, the dealer would have you believe your tuner obsolete so he can sell another at a profit. 2; the techs at that particular dealership do not know how to tune with it.
While TTS may indeed be an option as Mike suggests, a skilled tuner can make the SERT work well. Look around you may find better options out there than the dealership would lead you to believe.
I agree. Find a dealer (or an indy) that will tune with your SERT. Whoever you took it to as pointed out here by Inspector 12, hasn't a clue as to how to tune with it is what it boils down to. It's a good device and I wouldn't go chunking it out the window just yet..
So does anybody have a suggestion. I have the sert dongle, the wires but no software. Other than the rinehart true duals and a screamin eagle football exhaust I have no idea of what might have been done to this bike. It runs good. I cant make any changes unless I can reprogram the ecm, unless I remove it all together. I have looked everywhere for the cd's and or the training dvd's for sale and none available anywhere. I called tts and they have nothing to share(being the originator of sert). I have the M&M system so my options are limited. I could always go carb if I ever develop a problem with the FI. Would like to open the cam chest, but if I do I will probably want to up grade my cam, if not already done.
