Default Is it worth it?

I have read and researched till I am blue in the face and cross eyed to boot.

An indy shop has or is trying to talk me into putting cams in my bike. I have read about this cam that cam all different brands, and people who say oh man what it did for their bike and others who said they did not think it was worth the money that is spent.

What they are wanting to do, is ss gear driven cams, new push rods, no head work the cams are a complete kit from S&S supposed to free up more tourqe and be better for 2 up riding, which is 75% of all of my riding. All of this at a mere cost of 1300.00 and if I wanted they would give me a break and dyno tune the PCIII for only 200.00 more. I really need some good honest advice from you guys who can wrench. I can do some things but motors are not one of them. thanks

Wayne, if your bike is '06 or older you might be able to get away just replacing your tensioners as the chain is now "polished". Get some adjustable pushrods, install some torringtons, check your oil pump, slip in some cams and be good to go . TTS lets you get the tune very close yourself and will be good for anything else you may want to do. Check out HQ's website. Quality, well engineered stuff. P.S Stereo works great, Russel

Generally speaking, your '07 doesn't need the gear drive cams, especially if you're not going to do much more than cams to it. Significantly, it seems that S&S are about the only manufacturers that actually point this out in their literature.
Based upon your comments, I presume that you're thinking of the 510 cam which I have heard positive comments about.
I would advise that you buy the cams and install kit from S&S and get them installed (Approximately $350.00) If you add in adjustable pushrods, the HD kit is more than adequate. ($147.00). If you already have a PCIII, I am positive that there is a canned map available for free download from FuelMoto, negating the need for a dyno tune. Now considering that the labor time for a cam job seems to be 5 hours, tops, I think you can come in a hell of a lot cheaper than $1,300.00. Just my .02

I will try and find out what the cams are, he was talking above my head and he wrote down prices but no specifics. I bought my PCIII before I knew about fuel moto, so I can not get maps from Jamie.

The shop had a gear drive display that had the Harley set up and then the S&S and made the pitch see how much easier your bike will run with the S&S, the S&S display was much easier to turn than the HD one. I will find out what cams they are pitching and post it back here

Thanks for all of your guys help

I will have to agree that with a2007 and up no need to go to a gear drive. As for cams, the S&S are decent but I would suggest going with the HQ ones instead. Much better in my opinion. The only other things I would change would be adjustable pushrods, lifters and of course cam bearings. With all of this it would be well under 1300 including labor
