Harley-Davidson headsets tape/clamp in the 3/4 helmet. Try a few on and then install your headsets you have in the helmets you select. I have HD, and HJC 3/4 helmets with HD headsets installed in them. They work just fine.
no didnt have to drill j&M does have the headset for n-com fit right into the cavity on the helment had to enlarge the speaker pocket (just a little foam trim ) for the larger j&m speaker, and a small enlargment inside the headset cavity in the helment. it was easy with a dremmel love the open face helment with intergrated faceshield and sunvisor.
as for drilling the shell itself all your doing is slightly enlarging an exsisting hole ,its inside the cavity under the cover it should in no way compromise the strenght of the lid.
So, has anyone just cut some holes in the liner for the speakers, and mounted the mic and had good results with it? Hate to buy new headsets when I already have two. I just don't want to ruin a new 3/4 helmet.
I picked up a ZOX modual for winter riding, I had to notch the foam around the ears for the speakers, and the neck curtain for the mic. I used a J&M elite that I had in my old HJC 3/4 whick had nice poskets that accepte the earphones. I also have a KBC from J&M that has the headset intergrated into it.
If you find a helmet that fits you, check to see if the ear pockets are deep enough. My wife has an Aria and there was room in her helmet.
I recall the HJC cost about $50-60 but that was a while ago
Thanls for all the suggestions, I've found an HJC and a Scorpian I like, now just have to make a decision. The size on the Scorpian is in centimeters, how does that equate to inches? I'm not the best math guy in the world.
I use the Nolan n103 purchased from J&M. Good quality. If you are considering a Nolan helmet make sure you try it on first as their sizes seem to run a bit small.
