Most land around here is posted No Hunting so the fields/roads are crawling with deer. I commute into Calgary (15 minutes to the south side) and at the right times of the year hardly a day goes by that there isn't a new carcass and a trail of radiator fluid on the road.

Years ago I hit three deer and a rather large dog - all hits while driving company cages. I never hit a deer since until last year when I put one of the hairy b*st*rds out of its misery on my new RKC. I have a heavy foot (and some say total disregard for the rediculously low speed limits) so I travel fast more often than slow. Funny thing but all hits were at relatively slow speeds (< 60 mph). The hit last year on my bike I was probably only doing 40 (Never even saw the deer).

I have a strong suspicion that if you drive/ride faster the deer don't have time to get in front of you. Now I'm not real anxsious to test this theory but it is something I've noticed.

I'd be interested in hearing what others that have had deer hits think but this may not paint a true picture because those that had high speed hits are probably not around to comment.

At any rate, it doesn't matter how slow you go and how watchful you are, when they want to commit suicide in front of you they will and you may not be able to do a thing about it.

You are very lucky, as am I. Your bike is almost a carbon copy of my deer strike, except mine was on the left side. Same dent in the tank and all. We did not go down so my tour pack and stuff was not damaged. But he SH^T all over and his guts were on my floorboard.
Here's a tip for you, if the tab that the crash bar is bolted to up under the neck is bent and the paint is cracked, it is a frame out repair. These frames are powder coated, not painted. They can't "fix" it even if they say they can. I got an extra $2500.00 for mine.
I'll hazard a guess at your bill.......around $10,500. A total needed to be 60% for mine.
Glad you are OK.
Oh, and my bike is RED and my name is MARK.........LOL

Just luck of the draw. Jeans will shed like paper mache if you slide down the road.

Hit a deer with the car, lots of damage, about 4,500. The good Lord has something for you to do.

I like the picture of the boots. My wife bitches about the boots I insist she wears; she now understands after seeing what happened with your boots they are a must have!

Glad your OK, let us know how the repairs go.

Thumbs up

As you can see I have the same bike. I swear if that happened to me the deer better die cause if it did that to my beloved I would punch it to death. Glad you are ok, keep us up on how the repair goes and get back on soon.
